DA salutes 42 loyal employees

On its 114th anniversary, the Department of Agriculture recognized  employees who have  served the office and its clients with excellence. This year’s theme says “Sa matuwid na daan pagkain ay sapat, kabuhayan ay angat.”

Employees who served for 40 years are  Phil  S. Dormitorio, Juanito Y. Loquias and Valeria S. Tolomia.  For 35 years are Evangeline S. Cortez, Jaime I. Delfino, Gloria B. Jaylo, Apja S. Salim and Fe S. Sambulan.  Thirty years were Russendyll L. Acuna, Antonio B. Calupez, Silvano DC Corpuz, Jr., Ferdinand D. Gamorot, Jose L. Isagani and Rowena I. Pajes and Habib Robbam Shariffcammah.  For 25 years are Priscilla C. Jover, Carlito A. Larubis, Danilo C. Rodriguez,  Delia M. Rodriguez,  Crisente A. Sisican and Filipinieta P. Tuzon.  Twenty years are Antonio P. Barredo, Crispin T. Castro, Jr,  Isabelito D.  Montecino and Jaime D. Sabijon.  For 15 years are Junas P. Araya, Stephen A. Gonzales and Darwin Lloyd D. Sulay. For 10 years are Erlinda J. Baldorado, Cherry Vic R. Cadiz, Edgardo M. Cuanan, Eufracio S. Endaya II, Mary Joy P. Flores, Marie France Q. Jalao,  Cynthia G. Litigio, Wajidda B. Majuddin, Ahmad  A. Nahul, Ma. Criselda SJ Olarte, Bartolome R. Ombrezo, Josefina I. Sarad, Arcele P. Templa and Roque A. Tornandizo.  Awardees were given cash and  a plaque of service and loyalty   yesterday at the grounds of the  DA’s Bureau of Plant Industry at the Port Area in Zamboanga City.

Phil Dormitorio, Farm Supervisor assigned at the  Research Center in Ipil Zamboanga Sibugay  said “  I am proud working with the Department of Agriculture.  This agency allowed my children to finish their studies.”  No matter how big or small the demand of the job is “we just have to work and do our share,” Dormitorio added.  ” Valeria Tolomia,   Sr. Agriculturist assigned at the  Soils Laboratory said she spent half of her life with the DA and proud  to  meet “my one true love in this office. I traveled regionwide  even in some critical areas to get soil samples for  testing for the benefit of the farmers.” She cited official travels outside the region as an indirect incentive and at the same time  an opportunity for learning.  Dormitorio and Tolomia  served the DA for 40 years.

In behalf of Civil Service Commission  Regional Director Macybell Alfaro Sahi, Alvin Araneta said  that the civil servants are  the best resources  to sustain the mandates  of any agency.  “This activity is a manifestation of  DA’s  support to  its employees.  Recognizing the loyalty and continuous service of  the men and women in this agency will encourage them  to  exert more effort in the pursuit of  food security.” 

For his part,  DA Regional Executive Director  Eduardo B. Holoyohoy said “we are facing the challenge of food staple sufficiency  in 2013.  I am sure that  we can attain this with all your support and with the  divine intervention because weather condition is not within our  control.” RED Holoyohoy also  inducted the newly elected set of officers for the DA’s Multipurpose Cooperative with Ferdinand Gamorot as the Chairman, Engr. Luisita M. Abella as Vice Chairman and  five Board of Directors namely: Edgardo B. Tabal, Jaime T. Delfino, Constancio G. Alama,  Engr. Gwendolyn  B. Folgo and Engr. Roger Bagaforo.  Also inducted were the Accountant, General Manager, Treasurer, Book Keeper, Secretary and the   committees on Audit, Election, Training, Credit.

The anniversary also converged 21 attached agencies of the Department : ATI, BAI, BAS, BFAR, BPI, BSWM, FIDA, FPA, NABCOR, NDA, NFA, NIA, NMIS, NSQCS, PCA, PCA-ZRC, PCC, PCIC, PFDA, RAFC and QUEDANCOR. A sports fest was also held to foster camaraderie among the DA family. The  Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) championed  Volleyball men and women, Badminton women, Dart women, and Table Tennis men,  while Badminton men, Chess, Bowling, Dart and Table Tennis women division were garnered by the National Food Authority (NFA). The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) bested all agencies in Basketball.  Having the most number of points, NFA was declared the overall champion. (Melba Wee, DA 9)

Cocolisap funds await PCA, City Hall coordination gab

Funds to rehabilitate the coconut industry following the cocolisap devastation cannot be released as of yet until after the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) regional office 9 and the city government of Zamboanga through the City Agriculturist’s Office shall have coordinated with each other and reconciled their respective figures as to the exact number of coconut trees affected by the coconut scale insects (cocolisap).
