Teenager, gun-for-hire suspect arrested in Tetuan

A 19-year-old teenager and a 23-year-old suspected member of a gun-for-hire group were arrested in Barangay Tetuan, this city, Sunday, police said.

Chief Inspector Elmer Acuna, chief of Tetuan Police Station, the suspects identified as Ifraim Barrera y Bazan, and Perry Angeles alias Eric Barrera y Delos Reyes, were arrested along San Bernardino Bridge in Tetuan at about 8:35 Sunday night for possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal drugs.

Apprehending policemen recovered a Colt Combat Caliber .45 Pistol with serial number 7510291 from Angeles and a heat-sealed sachet believed to be containing "shabu" from Barrera. The two arrested suspects are residents of Barangay Mampang, this city

Acuña said the suspects were spotted by the personnel of Motorcycle Anti-Street Crime Operatives (MOSCO) riding-in-tandem on a skeletal type motorcycle with plate number YF 5360 wihtout wearing helmet along San Bernardino Bridge.

"The police personnel stopped and frisked the two for verification and Police Officer 1 Jessie Arat noticed Angeles tucked with a handgun on his waist which resulted to the confiscation of the Caliber .45 Pistol with a magazine loaded with 6 live ammunition concealed inside a holster and a black bonnet."

Angeles failed to present the proper document of the firearm and was conducted to Tetuan Police Station for investigation and detention, while Barrera, the driver, yielded a sachet of shabu, according to the police investigators.

The two suspects are now under the custody of police for a case for violation of R.A. 8294 or illegal possession of firearms and R.A 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,

Police said the suspects will also be charged for traffic violation.

Acuña told Zamboanga Today that the investigators are establishing a lead on the possible involvement of the suspects in the previous series of shooting incident under their area of jurisdiction. He said that there are information receives that the suspects belong to a local gun-for-hire group.

I wonder if the police will ever do a ballistic fingerprint on that .45 caliber to see if it was used in any of the killings in Zamboanga! They might be surprised to find out that some of those guns used for crimes came from the police and military!

City to require all ‘lechoneros’ to utilize San Roque slaughter and roasting facility

The city government is set to implement an ordinance mandating all members of the Lechoneros Association of Zamboanga to slaughter and do roasting activities at the government’s Slaughter House facilities in Barangay San Roque. Assistant City Administrator Cesar Raz disclosed the roasting place inside the Slaughter House compound is nearing completion and possibly will be in operation by August.
