"The Philippine National Police will never run out of heroes, as there will always be someone who will rise to the occasion to perform the mission and his trustworthiness deserves the utmost praise and recognition," this was the message of Police Regional Director Chief Supt Juanito Vaño Jr. to all the unit commanders recently.
"Many policemen are honest and truthful public servants as this was demonstrated by SPO3 Edgar Lim, Officer-in-Charge, Valenzuela Police Detention Center, for returning a bag containing cash money amounting to more or less Php 8,000.00, cellphone and other important documents which he recovered on his way home along Maysan road, Valenzuela City on March 25, to Ms. Rubelyn Cruz, a public school teacher of Malinta National High School," Vaño said.
SPO3 Lim did not easily succumbed to the temptation of obtaining material gain but instead stood firm on his conviction as a law enforcer and lived by the PNP Tenets of Justice, Honor and Service to the country, according to Vaño.
In 2006, Police Director Jaime G Caringal, then Police Regional Director bestowed Plague of Recognition to SPO3 Hardakar M Mariwa, Chief Clerk of Regional Comptroller Division, for his uprightness and righteousness for returning cash amounting to Php 150,000.00 pesos and assorted checks worth Php 84,414.80 or a total of Php 234,414.80 to Ms. Jenny Wee, Manager, ABS-CBN TV Station, Zamboanga Chapter for proper disposition.
SPO3 Mariwa was on his way home after making important transaction inside Camp Batalla and while passing thru the Intersection of RT Lim Boulevard and Alvarez Street, he saw a bulky large brown envelop along the road and decided to check it and discovered that it contained cash and checks in different denominations.
Immediately, SPO3 Mariwa, a religious Muslim believer straight forwardly shy-away evil temptation to attain personal gain and considering that he did not know the owner of the items decided to proceed towards ABS CBN station, a few meters away and made the proper turned-over.
Through its TV program, ABS-CBN Chavacano edition, the cash and checks was traced to the owner, a shipping company operating in Zamboanga City and the said brown envelop allegedly fell from one of their collector who was at the time making a round-collection to their clients.
The PNP hierarchy further encourages all police personnel to emulate the honesty and dedication to the service of both police non-commissioned officers as demonstrated by them.
Vaño said the highly commendable acts of SPO3 Lim and SPO3 Mariwa are indeed exceptional as they reflects the epitome of ideal policemen.
Policemen like them are not a rare breed in the Philippine National Police. There are others who promote and develop the culture of professionalism and excellence, the finest tradition of the police service, Vaño added. (Press Release)
