Taiwan row hits Rotary Int’l,
Filipinos resigning

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rains came and the streams rose, and the wind blew and beat against that house, but it did not fall, because it was built on a rock. But everyone who hears my words and does not put them into practice is a fool, who built his house on sand. The rains came, the streams rose, and the wind blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash…” (Matthew 7:24-27, the Holy Bible).

TORNADOES PREDICTED TO HAPPEN LONG AGO: I do not mean to scare Americans and all other human beings worldwide but the tornado that struck central Oklahoma, USA, last Sunday, May 19, 2013, and last Tuesday, May 21, 2013, and killed about 51 people, including 21 school children, is not going to be the last, in America or in many other parts of the world. More are to come, and we have been warned about this.

The warning was made by Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, and it is written in Matthew 7:24-27 of the Holy Bible. In these verses, Jesus said that rains, floods, and strong winds—read that, tornadoes and twisters—are sure to come, and those who do not listen to Him, as well as those who do not obey Him, are going to die tragically.

Jesus said there are people who will escape the wrath of rains, floods and strong winds. These are the people, He said in Matthew 7:24, who listen to Him and obey His words. Now, the question is: are we going to suffer, or are we going to be spared the death and destruction from rains, floods, and strong winds? The choice is ours, really.

ROTARY INT’L USED AS A FORUM FOR POLITICS: I have been a Rotarian and a member in good standing of Rotary International since 2004, particularly of the Rotary Club of Intramuros of Manila, District 3810, but I am seriously considering of resigning my membership sometime in Rotary Year 2014-2015 when Taiwanese Gary Huang will assume the presidency of the prestigious worldwide charity organization.

The reason? Well, with due respect, I am convinced Huang cannot be an effective president of Rotary International, considering that, in the speech that he delivered during the Rotary World Peace Forum in Hiroshima, Japan, between May 17-18, 2013 in his capacity as Rotary International President Nominee who will take over Rotary’s presidency in 2014, he violated Rotary rules against Rotarians meddling in politics.

Huang’s speech is now being circulated in the Internet among Filipino Rotarians, together with what appears to be a letter-protest coming from Filipino Past Rotary District Gov. Ismael Z. Villareal of District 3830. Villareal did not mince words when he directly accused Huang of disregarding Rotary’s Manual of Procedure on Rotary and Politics in connection with his Hiroshima speech.

FILIPINOS RESIGNING FROM ROTARY: I called up some other Filipino Rotarians about this issue, and they told me that they too will resign when Huang becomes president. They, too, felt as Villareal felt—that Huang “may have overlooked the fact that your actions are no longer in conformity with the provisions of the RI Manual of Procedure on Rotary and Politics...”

The other significant parts of Villareal’s letter follows: “I would like to believe that you made your speech in the best interest of world peace. However, it is disheartening to note that in your desire to show to the international audience that an immediate resolution of the on-going Taiwan-Philippine territorial dispute would contribute to world peace, you have taken sides in the political dispute...

“I wish to draw attention to the following statements in your speech:  a. `This cold-blood killer is covered by the Philippine Government’… b.  `We discontinued all the treaties and relationship at the current status with the Philippine Government’… c. `We are ready for battle’…”
