A Documentary Episode of Correspondents, a national program of ABS-CBN featured Barangay San Jose in Antipolo regarding its struggles on meeting the basic demands of Filipinos survival last July 27 2010. The episode showed how ordinary people lives in accordance to the primitive ways of the past with no basic services of water, electricity, communication signals and less access to education and health programs from the government. Moreover, all of these undertakings deemed to be very impossible knowing that the country is considered to be part of the third-world countries and is known to be progressive through the years.
Meanwhile, the episode circulated its theme on how far would development reach as promised by President Benigno Aquino III in delivering its administrations commitment of peace and development especially to unprivileged places of the country. It is noted that because of no programs for road construction in that said place, basic social services have not reached to every constituent of the community. Thus, this situation is now to be believed that many places in the country is facing the same thing, this includes no less than here in Zamboanga City .
La Paz, considered to be the Summer capital of the city especially consisting of very beautiful scenic beauty of nature and forests reservoir filled with coolness of the air, is now facing detrimental environmental conditions based on poor or unorganized road construction. It is in fact, individuals and institutions or organizations often visit the place for relaxation, vacation and nature-tripping events, but up to date, the road is at its worsening state. With the current status quo of the area, it might be turned upside down causing more accidents.
For the many years, La Paz especially Km. 17-26, have not availed single cemented road construction services from the government. It is an executive function also to appropriate funds for the construction of roads so that other basic social services can be availed by the constituents.
On one exciting opportunity, we caught the leaders of the community attending the needs of the constituents especially helping construct or arranged damaged portions of the main road. It was surprising that such endeavor can be seen by our two eyes. With a nice intention, it would support drivers of motorcycles in delivering passengers to downtown area as well as truck drivers for the delivery of fruits and vegetable harvests to markets. What is seemingly beautifully practiced is the sense of bayanihan among constituents of the said barangay. After all, all Zamboangueños enjoy reap of the harvests of our farmers with fresh fruits and vegetables in various markets within the city.
The spirit of bayanihan, anciently told and until now has been practiced by most rural areas. La Paz , very mountainous in nature, had preserved the said tradition that would be inherited by future generations. It is indeed; despite of the poor conditions of the road, people uses and constitutes their own network of peace builders that would aid services for their own selves.
The road less traveled by most of our government officials can still be pursued as the road towards paradise if the government itself can consider the condition and put necessary attention to this matter. Nevertheless, if not granted, the community leaders can still find ways to survive-without electricity from ZAMCELCO, no clinics and medical attention from concerned agencies as well as other basic social services.
It is very nice to think how the government’s commitment for peace and development can be actualized. Everything can be accorded for progress with the help of every single individual of the community, other institution or organizations as well as the government. Hoping that road construction can be finalized within those areas at the soonest possible time. Great Salutation to our courageous constituents of Barangay La Paz especially Km. 17-26.
