LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom…” (Proverbs 90:12, the Holy Bible).
A TIME FOR POWER, A TIME FOR DOWNFALL: By sheer coincidence, I got a glimpse of former Chief Justice Renato Corona and his wife at the fifth floor of the SM Aura at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig last Sunday, June 08, 2014. Even if he was wearing only a striped T-shirt and a casual pair of pants, there was no mistaking that it was the former chief justice that was in the crowd of hurried shoppers that afternoon.
But things have certainly changed for him, especially after he was ousted in an impeachment trial which, it is being made slowly and painfully clear now, was orchestrated by President Aquino himself using billions of pesos in government money from his development acceleration program (DAP).
The usual retinue of bodyguards was no longer there, including the usual crowds that militate around a powerful person, especially from the judiciary. The usual air of confidence, superiority, and invincibility were nowhere to be found. Indeed, what I saw reminded me of a Biblical truth: there is a time for everything, including a time for power, and a time for downfall.
ONE DAY, AQUINO, TOO, WILL HAVE TO ACCOUNT: Which is something that should be realized even by Aquino himself and those around him today. One day, they, too, are going to step down from Malacanang, from the perks and privileges, and from the pompous air of infallibility, they have assumed and which they have cultivated around themselves, since 2010. And then, the time for accounting will begin for them, too.
I am sure that at some point in the future, those who will succeed in governing this country will similarly readily find fault in the things that the Aquino government had done under its term. I am sure that whatever this government dished out to its predecessor-government and its leader then, President Arroyo, will be dished out to them, too.
Certainly, with the controversies and the many questionable transactions that the Aquino government is said to have entered into during its six-year term of office, the next government will not be wanting in cases that could be filed against President Aquino himself and his cohorts. Indeed, the Bible said that whatever measure one used in judging his fellows will be the same measure that will be used against him.
A TIME FOR EVERYTHING UNDER THE HEAVENS: Maybe, officials of the Aquino government would want to read the Book of Ecclesiastes of the Bible where it said: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh…
“(a) time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace…”
Also, Aquino officials may also want to read James 5: “Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire…”
