BFAR launches nationwide Fish-sing hymn making contest

PDFPrintE-mail

As part of the commemoration of the upcoming 51st Fish Conservation week this October 2014, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will hold its nationwide Fish-Sing BFAR Hymn Making contest which is open to the youth specifically the enrolled high school and college students.

The competition is part of the bureau’s effort to promote its significant role in fostering public awareness on the protection and conservation of the fishery resources and hopes to strengthen its identity as a government agency and invoke oneness and unity among BFAR employees. The winning entry will be used by the BFAR as its official hymn to be sung during flag ceremony and other assembly events.

The contest will be conducted in three levels: the regional screening; the preliminary screening at the Central Office and; finally, the selection of three (3) grand prize and two (2) consolation prize winners. The Top three (3) national winners prizes at stake will be P30,000.00 & plaque of recognition for the 1st place; P20,000.00 & plaque of recognition -2nd Place; and P15,000.00 & plaque of recognition -3rd Place while the two (2) consolation-prize winners will get P7,500.00 & certificate of recognition which will be chosen from the regional finalists at the Central Office. For the Regional level, the top three winners shall received P15,000.00 each. The awarding will be held during the culmination of the Fish Conservation Week.

The theme of the hymn should focus on the significant role of BFAR as a government institution taking the lead in efforts towards sustainable development, protection and conservation of the country’s fishery resources giving equal importance to the contribution of other concerned agencies, fisherfolk organizations, NGOs, academe, industry and other concerned stakeholders. The lyrics may also touch values such as love for service, country, and the environment. An aggressive point of view or persona is likewise suggested to imply a strong passion to protect the fishery resources and rally for the sustainable development of the whole fishery industry in general.

The contest guidelines consist of the following: 1) open to all enrolled high school and college students.; 2) individual or group participants should submit one (1) entry only; 3)  participants may request the assistance of a music expert; however, his/her participation should only be limited to consultations; 4) the hymn must be in Filipino; 5) the lyrics and the music must be original and follow a strong regular rhythm associated with marching tempo, usually with 4/4; 2/2 time signature. (e.g. Lupang Hinirang); 6) the hymn must be burned to a CD/DVD using .mp3, .mp4 and .flac format for better quality; 7) the participants may submit their entries by mail or personal appearance at the nearest BFAR Regional Office and must contain a copy of the lyrics duly accomplished entry form (downloadable at www.bfar.da.gov.ph) and a certified photocopy of their current school ID; and 8) all the entries shall be considered property of BFAR but the copyright remains with the student-participant.
