A dream that started just over a year ago which led to a broadcast network that revolutionized programming and technology in the media industry in Zamboanga city.
eMEDiA President and Chief Executive Officer, Rey Bayoging, tells the short history that led to the establishment of the only media organization that first utilized the multimedia programming.
“When I planned to retire from RMN, nagiging visual na ang mga tao. I just wanted to have a show for cable na visual ang format,” said Bayoging in reference to his last days before retiring as Assistant Vice President for Operations of RMN.
On August 28, 2014, Bayoging and a few of his friends, including eMEDiA General Manager Belsie Agustin, started using the internet to publish news stories.
The big break came on September 9 during the 2013 Zamboanga siege.
Bayoging, still connected with RMN at the time, partnered with the station to bring live feeds from the conflict zone via Ustream, AM and FM radio through the facilities of RMN and eMEDiA.
A blow by blow account of the conflict supported by live footages from the ground zero was broadcast live not only to local viewers but worldwide.
The live coverage via USTREAM reached over a million hits during this time.
Two big cable companies in Zamboanga, Sky Cable and Mindanao Cable TV, offered to broadcast the live feed in the internet through their cable facilities, thereby increasing local viewership.
The outcome of the coverage made the team realize that it is very important to sustain the operation of delivering the kind of information and unfolding of events attuned to what the public demands. The team decided to establish a local TV and FM radio station.
This important milestone allowed the E-media organization to stand on its own, thereby parting ways with its long time partner RMN, which chose to stick to AM radio programming.
From then on, E-media has proven to be the community’s partner in providing live video and audio coverage of important news events.
One of its exclusive and most important news coverage is the flashflood in barangay Sangali last July where thousands of viewers & radio listeners were able to view/listen the incident live.
Today, eMEDiA is the only full-fledged media company in Zamboanga City using the multimedia platform for local and global broadcast.
As such, it has become the partner of the Zamboangueño community in providing them the latest information, up to the minute news reports, intelligent and insightful commentary on the hottest issues discussed by its ever increasing audience.
The concept is not to compete with other media outfits but rather to compliment and supplement with the existing media platforms by introducing and utilizing the latest technology and social networking sites that the public is already exposed to.
This is the reason why eMEDiA is guided by its core principle of SERVING LOCAL, BROADCASTING GLOBAL!
