Human Trafficking & More Shocking Revelations on the Gas Scam

PDFPrintE-mail

If you haven’t tried e105.9 News FM yet, I dare you! eMedia’s news and current affairs yesterday (Thursday) at the early morning primetime was full of hot issues that any Zamboangueño, to my opinion, mustn’t fail to listen. Let me recap a couple of them.

The CIDG apprehended some handlers in Taganak, Tawi-Tawi, trafficking 11 women coming from the different provinces in the country, believed to be brought and probably sold for prostitution in Sabbah, Malaysia. Allegedly, the said handlers and the trafficked women passed through the ports of Zamboanga City. They were transited one by one until all of them reached Taganak, that is why they were not noticed right away by the authorities. But the long arms of the law had apprehended them. The women accordingly, were promised good jobs and better salaries in Malaysia without them knowing that they could be sold for human enslavements.

The 11 women were right away processed and helped for their recovery and return to their respective provinces. It is a disappointing fact that because of poverty and less opportunities in the country to find jobs, innocent Filipino women fall victims to the easy allures of human traffickers. Such criminals must be punished!

During the 6-8 AM “eMedia Mo” program hosted by partners GIL Climaco and Rey Bayona Bayoging, 3 candidates of the prestigious Miss Zamboanga 2014 Pageant were invited to also give views and opinions concerning certain issues, particularly on human trafficking. Around were pageant-candidates Karen Ellorimo, Bellatrix Tan and Criza Ocampo. They expressed disappointments and condemned the said human trafficking that took place in Taganak. They also answered each question intelligently and sensibly despite their young age.

Meanwhile, at the “Comversa! Quosa Ba?” program, hosts JV Faustino, Zamboanga Today Editor-in-Chief (EIC), and prominent journalist Liza Jocson were able to interview former Vice-Mayor Mannix Dalipe to give his side on the alleged SP gas scam.

Dalipe admitted that he was aware that the City Council, during his term, did owe Canelar Shell Station but only P200,000.00 and not 1.2 million. He further remarked that he was even shocked to learn such debt reaching that much.

When asked by Miss Jocson if he allowed private vehicles to gas-up using the gas slips during his term as Vice-Mayor, he simply replied, NO and that he also WASN’T AWARE OF IT DONE BY ANY CITY COUNCILOR. He also said he never gassed-up private vehicles using the gas slips issued to him by the City Goverment. He stressed, “I never tolerated such during my term”.

In no time, after Dalipe’s interview “Comversa! Quosa Ba?” was also able to contact Vice-Mayor Cesar Iturralde. When asked if he gassed-up private vehicles other than his issued government cars using the gas slips of  the City government, Iturralde replied that based on the flexibility of the nature of the jobs of the City Councilors, anyone of them can gas-up private cars when used in the line of their duties. Like when Councilor Jawo Jimenez’s issued-out car broke down, he had to use his own private car to perform his duties, thus, he gassed it up using his gas slip.

But the surprise above everything in the two live interviews is the admission of no less than Vice-Mayor Iturralde that the gas slips are even being used to gas-up a private bus company. Faustino and Jocson were shocked when they heard Iturralde’s new revelation.
