The fire last Saturday in Pasonanca is on investigation now by the proper authorities. It must be because no less than the Pasonanca Baranggay Captain Efigenio “Jun” Julian alleged that the worst damage of the fire can be partly attributed to the negligence of the Sta. Maria Fire Station. Capt. Julian said explicitly that if only Sta. Maria Fire Station immediately responded to their distress call, the damage wouldn’t be that worse.
Actually, the very fact of the matter, Sta Maria Fire Station was not at all able to respond in the conflagration. None of them was to be found in the vicinity. It took the Central Fire Station from downtown to respond to the fire. And Central Fire Station personnel had to maneuver the busy Mayor Jaldon St. on a rush hour. Thus, the water hoses of the responders touched the fire almost one hour from the time it started. No wonder that fire victims are more or less 150 houses and affecting 1,200 persons. The fire took place at around 2 PM of Saturday.
Fire victims, who are now in temporary sheltered at the Pasonanca Elementary School, in their rage, branded Sta. Maria Fire Station as INEFFECTIVE. How about the sentiment of the City’s general public? Presumably, anyone can say that at the event of any natural calamity, many of our local agencies are not ready. Indeed!
eMedia’s Capt. Fred Atilano went to the Sta. Maria Fire Station to get their side of the story, each seemed to give their reasons and excuses. But the Station’s official statement is accordingly their fire trucks were not working, as in busted, on that day! Well, if one shall take their lousy excuse, poor residents in Lacasteville can only sigh that the Saturday’s fire was a fateful one. Or was it? Because some are saying, there were or was no truck driver(s) available on that Saturday afternoon.
Let us cross the sea. eMedia’s Isabela City correspondent Joel Zanoria reported that last Monday, Sept. 29, a grenade exploded in ASL Gas Station which is owned by Vice-Mayor Abdulbaki Ajibun in Baranggay, Riverside. Witnesses said that 3 persons coming from the Isabela City proper were riding a Honda XR motorcycle passed the said gas station and threw an item then speed-up to the direction of Baranggay Aguada. Same witnesses noticed that the thrown item started to smoke and in few seconds detonated.
The said explosion had no casualty. Law enforcers recovered in the vicinity safety lever and several fragmentations from the grenade itself.
On the lighter side, during the Emedia Mo program, hosted by partners GIL Climaco and Rey Bayona Bayoging, Zamboanga City’s Senior Citizen Organization graced the program as the guest. The organization’s president, Mrs. Corazon Herico, informed the public of the privileges our law provides for the senior citizens particularly on discounts. She also clarified that any economic establishment must give-in when a bonafide senior citizen invokes his right for discounts otherwise proper sanctions can imperil the said establishment.
Mrs. Herico as well cited some activities their organization has in the coming days and she gladly announced that the eMedia is their official TV and radio station to these activities.
eMedia is the official TV and radio station too in the prestigious Miss Zamboanga 2014. Since day 1, eMedia has been featuring the pageant’s candidates individually as to introduce them to the public and for the public to know them better. Miss Zamboanga 2014 coronation night will be held on October 2 at 8 PM at Astoria Regency, Pasonanca.
To remind our public officials, whether in the executive, legislative and the judiciary that, “…it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” (1 Cor. 4:2)
