(BY: REV. BERLIE G. YAP) Were you also wet yesterday? Rain is a signature of the month October in Zamboanga City. But ask Pai Chu, an eMedia host/reporter, because he’s from the Department of Agriculture and he may reply you that rain is good for our farmers. Pai Chu by the way is a (seemed) local celebrity and accidentally because of the last year’s siege. Many love his kind of deep Chavacano vocabularies especially to our fellow Zamboangueños overseas who already missed their mother tongue.
However, the heavy downpours in the mountains produced strong currents in our rivers and creeks particularly the Caputatan-Putik, Tumaga that rises then to some feet, Guzu and the rest. Because of the unpredictable weather eMedia cut regular programming yesterday and went on a special coverage to keep Zamboanga abreast. We can’t risk chances we must help each other for our safety. We learnt by past lessons.
By official statement, at 12 noon, Zamboanga City Water District sent a text message to eMedia saying that though the waters up in Pasonanca rose but it ain’t yet enough to alarm much our populace particularly residents close to the Pasonanca River.
Also the City Hall passed an announcement to residents on low-lying places and riversides to be warned and cautious as knowing the weeklong rains may still continue in the coming days.
Anytime when an emergency happens and unexpectedly, eMedia is dedicated to do their duties for the comfort and safety of the people. Reporter Ely Dumaboc covered a report too from Sinunuc. Two houses close to the river were carried by the strong currents. That is sad, though the good thing there were no casualties.
Yesterday also, Yubengco Mall in San Roque has officially opened. A mild traffic jam caused a bit then in the junction of San Roque’s entrance road and the uphill way to Upper Calarian. But don’t worry folks the build-up is a sign of promotion and progress.
The new Yubengco San Roque is an advantage to our West Coast populace as when they shop or market. They won’t have to wade and robbed shoulders with busy individuals shopping downtown especially during the Fiesta Pilar where devotees as well from the outskirts and neighbor provinces visit down the City to light candles in the Fort.
eMedia Productions would like to congratulate the Depart of Education under the leadership of the Zamboanga City Division Superintendent Dr. Pete Natividad for the successful World Teachers Day celebration held last Saturday. Would you believe many well-meaning former students also went to the City Coliseum, the venue of the event, in Tetuan to extend felicitations to their former mentors who are now in their “twilight years”?
Miss Gay Lozada Baylosis of eMedia also paid her tribute to her mentors in the special program of the “World Teachers Day” last Saturday. She disclosed her naughty times where she also would get even to some bad and bully classmates by STEALTH. Accordingly, their adviser then would inquire if she was involved, she was ready to deny hardly! Of course, all of us passed similar grade school stuffs. Isn’t it?
eMedia is proud to have also teachers in its personnel circle. They are GIL Climaco in UZ before, Sir Jack Edward Enriquez in City High Main now, Miss Gay in Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, Wil Bazan, Pai Chu and me.
“Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me; Lord, be my help.” Psalm 30:10
