Tuesday’s Heavy Rains

PDFPrintE-mail

On Tuesday, due to the continuous heavy downpour overnight and early morning, eMedia changed their regular programming to a special coverage in response to the heavy rains threatening overflow of the different rivers and river outlets in the city.

The forces of eMedia were more than ready to engage anywhere and anytime. This is how eMedia is committed to the public, to Zamboanga City and the entire Zamboangueño community around the world.

eMedia reporter Capt. Fred Atilano brought fresh reports and footages of the flood in San Jose Gusu river. Its barangay officials, due to their past experiences, were very prepared to face the calamity. They built a “banca” for rescue and emergency purposes knowing San Jose Gusu is one of the low-lying barangays in the City, and has been prone to flooding, particularly Martha Drive and Sitio Gulayan.

From Police Station 1, Vitali OIC Police Station Commander Police Inspector Ramir Buenaventura also called eMedia to relay the actual situation in his area of responsibility (AOR). Rains were also heavy in Vitali, especially in its mountainous outskirts. Vitali’s rivers were chocolate brown in color. “Vitali’s policemen are ready to assist the people in any eventuality”, remarked Buenaventura.

Three Engineering students from WMSU on Monday drowned at the Caragasan beach because of the sea’s strong waves. Two of the three were rescued but the other one is still missing at the time this article is written. It was a holiday on Monday and many took the chance to unwind by going to city’s different resorts. But the merry affair of the said group of students ended sadly.

A brother of the missing engineering student went home from Manila to help in the retrieval of his younger sibling. The coastguard combed the area and neighbor coastal barangays to retrieve the missing student. A certain Lyndon Jaro Dondoyano sent a tagged video via facebook to eMedia, a live video footage of the missing student taken prior to his drowning. The young man looked happy, athletic and strong.

A1 reporter and writer of the Zamboanga Today and eMedia host/reporter Miss Liza Jocson interviewed PAGASA’s weather-observer Mr. Allan Jelani. He said the weather patterns of rains may continue yet for another one week and probably also during the Fiesta Pilar. He advised individuals to carry umbrellas or wear raincoats whenever they go out of their residences. Rains may come anytime within the day.

Meanwhile, City Hall announced the suspension of classes on public and private elementary and secondary schools. A tree fell in Pettit Barracks close to the travelling merchants detailed in the said area but right away it was attended to by City Hall personnel.

Belated happy birthday, yesterday, to Dodong Jessie or DJ eDodong who handles the early dawn opening programming of eMedia and at the time he is responsible of the song arrangements of the eMedia’s music and many voice-over of eMedia’s commercials.

“If my people, who are called by my name, WILL HUMBLE THEMSELVES and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14 (NIV)
