(BY: REV. BERLIE G. YAP) Which would you prefer to know first? I suggest we go to the good news transpiring Zamboanga City’s Wednesday (yesterday).
October 8, 2014, Zamboanga Today has turned exactly 15 solid years in professional journalism and has been serving Region IX, the country and the world.
Zamboanga Today’s circulation reaches not just national but global as its daily publication can be accessed online. Hence, any Zamboangueño can know firsthand the freshest news back home and much that recently a marriage happened between Zamboanga Today and eMedia Production. It is a landmark consortium between the print and the broadcasting media.
You just imagine the immense impact of these two current affairs companies in news conveying. It only tells how Zamboanga can do great for our country and the world!
The men and women of eMedia, with our general manager Mr. Belsie Agustin and our President Mr. Rey Bayona Bayoging, congratulates Zamboanga Today for its 15th year milestone. In lieu with the Fiesta Hermosa Festival the Local Government of Zamboanga City conducted a special medical outreach in the City Health Office yesterday. The said activity is part of the calendar itinerary of the City Festival. There
was medical, dental, minor surgery, even dermatology free check-ups.
The activity was headed by the Lady Mayor Miss Beng Climaco-Salazar and ZC City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos. Despite of the intermittent rains, many locals did show up to take advantage the benefits.
The flood waters in Pasonanca overnight receded to some degree and so was the Tugbungan outlet. However, a part of the river wall in Royal Lane fell and gave way to the flood’s currents. eMedia reporter Joseph Zosobrado observed that if the weeklong rains won’t stop, destruction may worsen because houses nearby can also be intruded with the river waters and eventually be carried by the currents.
Now, a couple of not too good news—a police officer assigned in Camp Abendan, Mercedes while driving a single motorcycle, together with his wife and child, last Tuesday was shot along a road in San Roque.
The said police officer succumbed to the gun shots while the wife and the child were safe except for some bruises due to the sudden fall, skids to the concrete road and ending up bumping another motorist.
Investigations are still on to determine the motive of the shooting.
eMedia reporter Eli Dumaboc proceeded to the West Coast yesterday early morning because a local boat or a “lancha”, M/L Princess Sheila, ran aground to Ayala’s shore because of the strong waves and winds that has been lambasting Zamboanga waters for almost a week now. Lt. Col. Joemar Angue of the Coast Guard personally checked the place to assess the situation because the said “lancha” was now spilling oil to the waters, besides the agrounding is feared to disturb the fish sanctuaries and endangering new spawned fingerlings in the area.
eMedia Basilan correspondent Joel Zanoria reported in the Emedia Mo news yesterday a shooting incident in Lower Lanote, Isabela City on October 4. Victims were identified as Ontoy Totoh and Intok Eppoh.
Both are residents in Baranggay Kapatagan Diutay.
Assailants are still unknown but initial investigations revealed that the said two victims were riding a red Honda XRM with a plate number JQ1831 heading to Upper Lanote. They were tailed by their assailants and were shot with a caliber 45 as confirmed by the shells recovered in the crime scene. Ontoy Totoh died on the spot while Intok Eppoh was brought to Basilan General Hospital for medical treatment. Police investigation is still going on to determine the shooting’s motive.
Intok Eppoh is the son of MNLF’s Kumander Abugao and some confidential reports are spreading now in Basilan that an expected vendetta or “rido” may happen anytime to recompense the former’s loss against the perpetrators.
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”
