ACPAZ receives NCCA grants for culture material development

The Association of Creative and Performing Artists of Zamboanga, Inc. (ACPAZ) is a recipient of a grant from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP). The project is entitled “Support for National Instructional Consortium for Cultural Education: Faculty Training and Instructional Materials Development.”

The project intends to produce two volumes of instructional materials which topics were subject areas taken up by DepEd Teachers who were scholars of the NCCA Graduate Diploma on Cultural Education (GDCE) offered every summer at different SUCs and HEIs throughout the country.

The writers and contributors for the book are competent and seasoned culture-educators namely: UP Prof. Dr. Jovy Peregrino; NCCA Commissioner Dr. Orlando Magno; Letran Professor Rica Palis; Former NCCA Commissioner Joyce Alegre; Former PCEP Director the late Elmer Ingles; De la Salle- College of St. Benilde Prof. Tim Dacanay; NCCA-PCEP Director Mr. Sonny Cristobal; UST Professor Eric Zerrudo.

The book will be divided based on the culture subjects in the GDCE level one and level two.

The first book will include four major topics, these are the following:

1. Re-view of Philippine History and Heritage. This will feature revisit to Philippine History and Heritage to reveal lost, unknown, silenced and undocumented local history;

2. Philippine Arts- provides traditional and contemporary practices of expressions in Philippine Arts and the Creative Industry and how they conjure representation of local identities, traditions in contemporary society;

3. Philippine Cultural Diversity and Languages. This covers cultural diversity, beliefs and values system of various Philippines Ethno linguistics groups and communities and the function of languages in cultural development and

4. Pedagogy of Cultural Education. This offers instruction on interdisciplinary approaches and teaching of culture across education curriculum.

The second book will include four major topics:

1. Local Cultural Mapping. This explains basic techniques methodologies and technologies of mapping the natural, historic, intangible and tangible, people and other heritage and cultural community;

2. Media-Based Cultural Documentation- explains various creative techniques, methods and accessible media technologies of print and audio-visual documentation of heritage for cultural education;

3. Culture-Based Teaching of the Basic Education curriculum. This provides contents, methodologies and applications of the essential cultural knowledge with emphasis on their application in the Basic Education Curriculum; and

4. Issues in Cultural Education, explains the manner students to acquire knowledge of global theories, practices and issues in cultural education.

The project is being completed before the month of December, 2014. The 22 year old ACPAZ is one of the few art and culture associations duly accredited by the NCCA. The association registered with SEC on November 20, 1997 with SEC Reg.No. G’199700370. The present president is Mrs. Zenaida A. Torres. Dr. Roberto B. Torres, president Emeritus is the Project Director. Patricio Salvador, ACPAZ PIO.
