Ateneo shines anew in Physician Licensure Exam

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine (ADZU-SOM) once again came up with an impressive performance during the recent Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) given by the Board of Medicine last March 5, 6, 12 and 13 in the citites of Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Manila and Zamboanga.

The university garnered a passing rate 87.50 (35 out of 40 examinees) for first time takers and an overall performance of 81.82% (36 out of 44 examinees).

This is significantly higher compared to the national passing rate of 61.73%. In the previous years, the ADZU-SOM was able to land the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth places in the PLE.

The ADZU-school was founded with the noble mission to help provide solutions to the health problems of southwestern Mindanao and to serve the needs of the region’s poorest and most isolated communities. It was the pioneer medical school in the country to introduce Problem Based Learning (PBL), an innovative, adult teaching modality. The AdZU-SOM is also a world leader in Community Oriented and Community Based Medical Education and Competency Based Evaluation.

To date, it has produced 358 board-certified graduates with 97% of its graduates choosing to stay in the Philippines. Seventy (70) percent of these are practicing in the region, of which 38% are practicing in remote, rural and conflict areas.

The ADZU-School of Medicine is a member of the Training for Health Equity Network (THENet),  a global movement of schools committed to transforming health-professions education to improve health equity. Together with the other THENet member schools located in underserved and rural regions of Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and Australia, the ADZU-SOM continues to pioneer innovative approaches to increase access and quality of care in the rural and remote communities of southwestern Mindanao. Police searching for armed man for mauling

A resident of Barangay Mampang, Zamboanga City, is now being hunted by personnel of Police Station 6 for mauling and totting his gun at another person on Sunday. Police report shows that a certain Omar Barahama y Mandura, 30, married, of Gaganaocruz Drive, Mampang filed a complaint at the police station against Elmer Bazan y Ramos, of legal age, married, of Fermina Drive, Mampang.
