IDLANA TINGKUN GRAND REUNION, APRIL 13-14 AT ECOZONE

ALL the members of the famous clan of the late IDLANA TINGKUN— the first municipal mayor of the town of Siasi, Sulu, are invited to attend its two(2)-day grand reunion affair on April 13 to April 14 to be held at the ZamboEcozone & Freeport Authority (Zamboecozone) in San Ramon, Brgy. Talisayan, ZC.

TINGKUN, a native of Laminusa in Siasi, was appointed as its first town executive by the late Pres. Elpidio Quirino in l946. He’s hailed as the famous panglima not only in Siasi but in the entire Sulu Archipelago, as well.

IN his honor, his clan will hold its upcoming momentous event, and about 300 to 400 clan members are highly expected to be present for its grand reunion. Apart from those who’re from Western Mindanao, like Tawi-Tawi and ZC, others are likely to arrive from other places like Davao City; Digos, Davao del Sur; Manila; and a handful of them will be coming all the way from abroad like Guam, KSA and Dubai.

DON’T TRY BEING EVEL KNIEVEL IN ZC

ROAD accidents continue to mount in the number of cases in the city with the latest that claimed the life of an 18-year old young lass last Sunday night. The mishap was described as fatal to Jessa Almario y Rabor who hails from Olutanga, Sibugay Province. She was the back-rider of her older brother Joseph, driver of their Honda Wave single motorbike that figured in a collision with a huge truck whose driver wasn’t named in the published report. The duo tried to overtake the truck but it hit its rear that sent both sprawling down the road while they were traversing on Buenavista St. in Zone 2 near the intersection of Sucabon and Mayor Jaldon St., downtown section. Joseph wasn’t hurt but his younger sibling Jessawas declared DOA by the attending physician of UZ hospital where she was rushed following the road mishap.

Previous to it, a string of road accidents occurred last month, and scores of the victims are the young ones riding their single motorcycles that are mostly seen running the city streets with their drivers acting like EvelKnievel, that famous American  motorcycle-jumping stuntman who did a lot of death-defying feats while in his prime in the l960s up to his death due to lingering illness in 2007.

Knievel is a global icon but don’t imitate his ways as there’s only one EvelKnievel in the world.

NONETHELESS, so many of them right in here na mi ciudad de flores, without their knowing, are even trying to be like Knievel, and what happens to a lot of these daredevils, here?

They land either in the hospital or in the cemetery. So, don’t do it—especially on those too narrow roads of ours where right now, they’re practically all in a topsy-turvy state with all those troublesome pipe-laying and road-widening projects simultaneously being undertaken by both their respective gov’t entities (ZCWD and DPWH).

I heard from one veteran engineer that the water district’s pipe-laying works will finally end by June or July?

Really? Let’s find out if true.

OUR local PNP here makes sure they won’t stop their highly intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign in ZC. This being so, our local cops netted in their separate buy-bust operations, a total 13 drug users and/or pushers in the different sections of the city over the weekend. The barangays where they launched their separate stings vs. the drug menace, citywide were Camino Nuevo, Baliwasan, Sta. Maria, Southcom Village in Upper Calarian and Tugbungan. Kudos, guys!

BUT, can we expect you, guys, to also get the big fish here? ZC is considered a melting pot in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula and don’t tell us there are no big drug lords here. If what we hear as true that Western Visayas has the Espinosas as their drug kingpins out there, and Peter Lim as such also in Cebu, both as big as ZC, then there’s no doubt that— to our chagrin, our city has its own, as well.

But, if true only the fries can be found here and that there’s no one else as big as those known strong few already neutralized under the Duterte administration, like what happened to suspected drug lord, the slain Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa of Leytewho was killed right inside his prison cell while under police detention late last year, then there’s no cause for alarm when it comes to huge supplies of illegal drugs in this part of the country.

But we need you to do more to get the big pushers and their suppliers rather than just showing your stuff against the simpletons in this illicit drug trade business.

HOWEVER, still a great job on your part. We salute you just the same. Carry on, guys.

BENG, DIAZ DON’T JUST MATCH AT ALL

THE latest we learned our city gov’t finally offered a lot of huge size not any from the east-coast but in the city’s west-coast, particularly that one property already owned by the city originally planned for a public cemetery for the dead in the area.

SO that’s it, our city’s supposed counterpart to the BJMP’s ready funding of P194 million aimed for the transfer of the ZC reformatory center, or better known as ZC jail station, for so long a time, serves as the detention house of all crime suspects, mostly involved in illegal drugs.

But, wait, we heard that no less its jail warden C/Insp. Ervin Diaz is not sold to it. He expresses his apprehension over its long distance predicament when bringing their inmates to the court in the halls of justice which is located at the Pettit barracks that takes them long to travel, and thereby poses major risks to include their possible escapes and/or being rescued by their so-called comrade-in-arms having their vantage-ground to come to their aid. Brgy. Talisayan is roughly 20 or more kilometers west of the city proper and it takes even about half an hour to reach downtown where its traffic jams are expected to build up during peak hours of the whole working week days.

WHEN our lady Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar got wind of Diaz’s unlikely comment, she urged that he put it into writing, and not simply be a blabber.

Department of Interior And Local Government (DILG) City Director Mohammad Taha Arakama is urging the different barangays here in Zamboanga City to submit their Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan.
