Thirty-Eight (38) notable young peace advocates were finally recognized as the Batch 2011 Young Peace Weavers by the Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP). In collaboration with Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and Society of Young Peace Weavers, 2011 Search for Young Peace Weavers is one of the most remarkable searches in its eleventh year of recognizing outstanding young peace advocates.
After undergoing a tough selection and screening process, the 38 out of the 94 total applicants, both from High school and College were chosen by the respected and formidable members of the Screening Committee last March 5, 2011 at PAZ Office, San jose Road, Zamboanga City.
For demonstrating selfless commitment to peace advocacy, promoting harmony between and among people, initiating programs that promote respect and the appreciation of culture of persons and institutions as well as projecting the image of a real model towards peers were the central theme in the selection of the new batch of peace weavers.
The Search had been operative since 2000 with PAZ as its lead organization in the quest for recognizing young people who have significantly contributed to peace. A total of 136 Young Peace Weavers now is sharing remarkable contributions to make this world a better place to live in.
The applicants were interviewed by respected leading peace advocates of the city to include Fr. Angel C. Calvo, cmf, (Chairman), Prof. Ali T. Yacub, Al-Hj (Chairman), Pastor Roger Feliciano, Hji. Abdu Rahim Kenoh, Dr. Marcy Carpizo, Dr. Rufina Cruz, Sr. Emma I. Delgado, Mr. Darwin Wally Wee, Mr. Avelino Sulit, Mr. Aldrin B. Abdurahim and Ms. Rosie France Montojo.
The 28 High School awardees includes the following namely Alinasser Yusop, Alfredo Aujero III, Sheena Arcega and Arwald Candido of Zamboanga City High School-Main, Jomar John Molina and Wilson Lambiquit of Zamboanga National High School-WEST, Phyllis Mae S. Lemana of Maria Clara L. Lobregat National High School, Elvi C. Ramos of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, John Xyrious Dela Cruz of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Rebecca Llanos of ZION Evangelical School Mara Angelie Palma and Fharnieza Mohammad of Western Mindanao State University-ILS, , Princess Jeane Gairanod of Pilar College-HS, Adzhar Madjid of Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, Mohammad Haydrey Aminulla of Regional Science High School, Melanie Roldan of Limpapa National High School, Mark Anthony Bucoy of Ramon Enriquez High School, Mary Ann Eusebio of Bunguiao National High School, Wawin Musad of Baluno National High School, Ajijan Akmad of Arena Blanco National High School, Claire Antonette Sustiguer of Claret School of Zamboanga City, Abdulattip Kanjang and Sherwina U. Ramlee of Sangali National High School, Ahmad Abbas and Vanessa Dela Cruz of Ayala National High School, Joypee Cainglet of Southcom National High School, Ricmar Cua of St. Joseph High School, Ronaldo Donan Jr of Tolosa National High School;
Meanwhile 10 College recipients include Mohammad Khalid Selia of Brent Hospital and Colleges Inc., Muhmar Alonto of Universidad de Zamboanga, Mohammad Zen N. Johan, Jan Marie T. Luna and Joan Mae Barredo of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Joey Leonardo, May Kris T. Coros, Dick Jay Bustamante, Mark Anthony Mejares and Nashwa Salih.
All recipient of the prestigious award will receive the medallion and certificate of recognition during the schools’ Recognition and/or Graduation Day. After which, will be exposed in the many activities of the organization that promotes peace, will officially be acknowledged by the Society of Young peace weavers and be awarded again during the celebration of the Mindanao Week of peace.
According Margarette Williamson, “in every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal, in every heart, there is the power to do it”; that’s the ultimate mission now of the young peace weavers with the great power to live by the spirit of a true peace weaver, great responsibility is put on everyone’s shoulders.
