The Youth Solidarity for Peace (YSP), youth arm of Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP) have just finalized its plans for the summer season as it strengthens its continuous pursuit to encourage young people to be in solidarity with the organizations peace activities.
In the concluded YSP Monthly Meeting, the YSP through PAZ spearheaded the renewal of commitment among the volunteers as they welcome the new set of officers of the organization, conveners of various committees, young peace weavers 2011 and other affiliated members of various organizations.
PAZ Executive Secretary Sr. Emma I. Delgado disclosed greater appreciation to all the members and even expressed gratitude to parents of the volunteers for the continuous support to the endeavors of peace.
The said meeting presented the various updates of the organization to include summer activities plans like the annual conduct of the Summer Youth Peace Camps. YSP Camp will be held prior to the Youth Summer Peace Camp designed to cater college students and other youth from the communities whose age is under the college level. This year’s theme focuses on “SOLIDARITY”- paving way to sustain peace efforts to schools and communities.
As an offshoot of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Year 8 Award, YSP will be part of the Official Poster that will be circulated all over the country in this years search for TAYO. Thus, remarkably, YSP soars high in the continuous inspiration of heightening peace activities not just locally but nationally.
YSP gears up summer activities in a different level and approach. The involvement of new volunteers who will undergo the YSP Camp will further enhance conflict transformation skills through bridging leadership and the culture of peace. Houses have been created to solidify bonding and significantly foster an atmosphere of support to the affairs of the organization.
Some important activities includes the organizations of a SPORTSPEACE which will run until May that composes various activities like documentaries, essays, photojournalism, projects for peace, simple individual and group sports and its integration in the 1st PAZ House Cup.
Meanwhile, as the YSP amended the Constitution and By-Laws, Mathew Lines, a student of Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) has been unanimously elected as the President, Albert Putong (Architecture Graduate)- Vice-President, Conveners includes Zahra Ditti (College Committee), Sosimo Eyas (Community Committee), Milarose Barraca (Young Peace Weaver Committee) and Jan Marie Luna (Young Professionals Committee).
The set of officers will actively support the major operations of peace activities of the organization and link its affairs to the major activities of PAZ, ZABIDA and IRSMP. The YSP is now preparing its many activities for summer. The youth believes in the power of coming together in the spirit of peace and solidarity.
