Pagadian’s economic growth attributed to stable peace and order, says ZamboSur gov

PDFPrintE-mail

PAGADIAN CITY, June 22 (PIA) – “The economic growth that Pagian City has now achieved is ascribed to the stable peace and order.”
This was the message of Zamboanga del Sur governor Antonio H. Cerilles, who was the guest of honor and speaker on Tuesday’s 42nd Charter Anniversary held at the city gym.

Speaking before the city officials, government employees, teachers and students, Cerilles said peace and order is very important ‘ingredient of development’. “No city in the country has ever achieved economic progress without having a stable peace and order condition, Cerilles said adding that “stable peace and order conditions is requisite for economic development of the city.”.

“Tan-awa ninyo ang mga siyudad nga karaan ug gubot, wala gayud mga negosyante nga mangadto. Mao ra ug patay nga dakbayan ( Look at those old and unpeaceful cities, no businessmen dare to visit. It is like a dead city),” Cerilles exaplained.

The province’ chief executive has observed that Pagadian in its 42nd year of existence as chartered city is now experiencing fast economic development saying that the establishments of big shopping malls and other infrastructure projects have contributed to the economic growth of the city.

The city has four malls, namely: People’s plaza. Best Emporium, Uni City, Gaisano Capital and C3 mall.

Cerilles said the city has "achieved far." “Before we don’t have concrete roads, no airport and shopping malls but now, these infrastructure projects were implemented and were enjoyed by our people not only from the city and province but from the neighboring cities and provinces in regions 9 and 10,” Cerilles added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Samuel S. Co in his anniversary message said it is his duty to report to the public in every anniversary program about what has been done and what next to be done for the beloved city.

Co said in 2003, the locally generated income of the city is only P38-M and in 2010, it reached to P115-M. “For the first time, we were able to hit the marked target of P100-M in our locally generated income.” Co proudly reported.

“These were all done with the common result of aggressive collection of the city treasurer’s office and economic enterprise,” Co explained.

Co reported on the finished infrastructure projects, among those were the expansion and rehabilitation of city airport , renovation of the city hall and city executive buildings, restoration and reconstruction of the city gym, and the construction of the C3 commercial center, a 5-storey fully air conditioned mall owned and operated by the city government.

Co said the economic development attained by the city was due to the cooperation of the provincial, city and barangay officials and employees and the entire Pagadianons.

The anniversary program was graced with the presence of television personalities, such as: the print ad and TV commercial model and actress Sam Pinto, movie star and ramp model Carlos Morales, and the Brazilian model and TV personality Fabio Ide who greatly entertained the audience with their singing talents and presence.

Cerilles thanked Co for inviting handsome and beautiful actors and actress that gave great delight to the young audience.
