It is aimed at convening major stakeholders of Zamboanga City representing various sectors from the religious, academe, business, youth, civil society organizations, government line agencies and other members of the community in an avenue to discuss peace engagements for this year’s week of peace celebration.
As a response to the 7TH National Peace Consciousness Month spearheaded by the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process through Secretary Teresita Quintos-Deles, PAZ will be conducting another Stakeholders Orientation with the members of the Supreme Student Council/Government Officers from the different Universities, Colleges and State Colleges of Zamboanga City.
With the aim of strengthening a peace network of student government which influences the youth and student populace for a culture of peace as against culture of violence and active involvement for the incoming Mindanao Week of Peace Celebration, an orientation dubbed “Alliance of Peace Governments: International Day of Peace tribute to the decade of Peace” will be held on September 21, 2010 (Tuesday), from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM at the Solidarity Center, (fronting Grandstand main Entrance gate) RT Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City.
The month of September marks the celebration of the National Peace Consciousness Month aimed at seeking to instill greater awareness and understanding of the comprehensive peace process that aims to address the root cause of armed conflicts and social unrest in the Philippines. With the theme, “People Power at the Heart of Peace Process,” as a way of acknowledging the collective effort of the Filipino people in pushing the peace process forward, various civil society organizations all over the country will symbolically celebrate and commemorate the celebration of the International Day of Peace.
Pax Christi International Member Organizations join thousands of other organizations worldwide to mark the UN International Day of Peace on 21st September. The Generation Peace (GenPeace) and Gaston Z. Ortigas Peace Institute will be spearheading the “Celebrate Peace Day 2010” with its theme Sustaining the Youth’s Engagement, Bridging the Peacebuilding Gaps at the Quezon City Memorial Circle 8:00AM – 1:00PM, 21 September 2010. Meanwhile, an International Day of Prayer for Peace will also be observed. This day offers opportunities for (faith) communities to hold events, worship and prayer vigils, and forum on peace-related themes in different areas or country all over the world.
Odyssey Networks invites us all to join them on this day in their campaign ‘A Million Minutes of Peace’. They call on all people around the world to stop at noon and pray for peace for one minute- in their own way. No matter what your religious affiliation is, make a pledge to join in on this initiative. It only takes a minute.
As efforts for just peace enlightens one’s mind and heart, “the new Aquino administration is all the more committed to ensure the stability of the State and the security of our nation, with the ultimate goal of securing the safety and well-being of the people” disclosed Sec. Deles. The path to peace will be long and challenging. But with our collective efforts and initiatives, combined with our desire to have genuine and lasting peace, we will be empowered to put an end to these conflicts. Then it will be a “people power for peace”.
The Alliance of Peace Governments as another initial step for more peacebuilding efforts will also be journeying this year in line with the celebration of the Mindanao week of Peace. As a tribute to the decade of Peace, this initiative will eventually be of greater impact for more convenient peace advocacy to the Colleges and Universities of the city. Peace Government will also develop peace agenda and framework for the integration of peace commissions in various schools. Thus, will not jus emanates personal but also social transformation.
