Recognizing Peace Weavers and Notable Leaders from Private Schools

The Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP) and Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) in collaboration with the Zamboanga Basilan Integrated Development Alliance (ZABIDA) conducted the fourth of the series of Interviews for the Young Peace Weaver Awards and Golden Crescent Achievement Award for Leadership last March 16, 2012 at PAZ Office, 2/F SLSI Building, San Jose Road, Zamboanga City.

Members of the Panel composed of Prof. Ali T. Yacub, Al-Hj, Founder and President of the Golden Crescent Consortium of Peace Builders and Affiliates (GCCPBA), Hji. AbduRahim Kenoh, Retired Schools Division Superintendent, UCCP Administrator Mr.Avelino Sulit, Mr. Jaafer Kimpa, President of jabu jabu Inc, Mr. Rey Luis Banagudos, Editor in Chief-Peaceworks Magazine and Mr. Aldrin Bucoy-Abdurahim, IRSMP Executive Coordinator.
The major private schools actively participated in the interview process. Being the Final Phase of the Screening process, student leaders were confronted with series of questions from the members of the panel. They shared remarkable and significant contributions to the quest of peace both in schools and communities.

The panel decided to give the prestigious Young Peace Weaver Award to Mitzi marquez and Levin Angelo Lobren (Ateneo de Zamboanga University), PJ Purple Liz Montalban (ZION Evangelical School), Nisreen Aini Teo and Eunice Kay Sanson (ClaretSchool of Zamboanga City), Jericho Daymon (Southern City colleges High School),Fauziah Karim and Charlton Jao Mercado (Zamboanga State College of MarineSciences and Technology-Laboratory School), Al-Fadzri Akmad Sabtal and AnnaFlorence Saracho (Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College) and Myra Joy DelaSerna (St.Joseph School).
On the otherhand, Golden Crescent Achievement Awards for Leadership will be given to the following namely: Mitzi Marquez and Levin Angelo Lobren (Ateneo de ZamboangaUniversity), Romley Neil Guevarra (ZION Evangelical School), Daniel AngelitoHernandez (Claret School of Zamboanga City), Mary joy Judain (Southern Citycolleges High School), Julshabar Halil and Mysszer Mamon (Zamboanga StateCollege of Marine Sciences and Technology-Laboratory School), and Tobee Jasper Enriquez (St. Joseph School).

The importance of conducting the interview serves as a validation of the peaceeducation campaign of the organization yielding impacts to the lives of the students as leaders of the country. Student Leaders shared their best experiences highlighting significant contributions to the cause of peace bothin schools and community.

The Awards namely Young Peace Weaver since 2001 ad produced numerous young peace advocates whose mission is to develop peaceful communities in the city of Zamboanga. Thevisions of the notable leaders to strengthen the relations of Muslims and Christians as well as Lumads in Mindanao had been emphasized in the East Coast clusters.

Leaders hip Qualities strongly gave high considerations in the quest of development and good governance among public schools. The stories of the notable leaders gave the panel more inspirations to heighten peace education efforts among the established schools with more vision of not just empowering students through academic excellence but strengthen human relationships between and among communities confronted with peace and order issues.

Notable Leaders receives the prestigious award at various graduations and in this year’s celebration of the Mindanao Week of peace. Zamboanga City must be proud of the notable leaders in the East Coast.
