LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Since everything will be destroyed (by fire) in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming…” (2 Peter 3:11-12, the Holy Bible).
ALBAY 4P’S BENEFICIARIES DOUBLE IN NUMBER: This column’s man from Albay, Johnny Nunez, sent in this report: “The government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, otherwise known as 4Ps, is set to double up its number of beneficiaries in Albay to 60,260 families by midyear, and this implies an injection of P1 billion to the province’s economy within the next five years.
“Albay Gov. Joey Salceda said the hike in 4Ps list from 31,211 as of last April to 60,260 families by July, will have a very positive and substantial impact on Albay's human development strategy. `It will, among others, further boost disaster resiliency and help sustain achievements in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)’, he added.
“The proposal to maximize Albay’s 4Ps beneficiaries in the program was made possible through `consistent and compelling representation of the provincial government’. It was approved by Sec. Dinky Soliman during the annual national meeting of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Cagayan de Oro City last January…”
EVEN JESUS SAYS MARRIAGE IS ONLY FOR MAN AND WOMAN: Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, the world’s only eight-division boxing champion as of today, is correct: Leviticus 20:13 of the Bible penalizes with death any same sex union, and US President Obama is wrong in supporting same sex marriages. The fact is, even Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, says marriage is for man and woman.
In Mark 10:6-9, Jesus clearly ruled that only a man and a woman could marry one another, thus: “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh’. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate…”
ANTI-DIABETES SWEETENER, ANYONE? Here, on the other hand, is an item about an anti-diabetic sweetener, to be produced by the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Agricultural Research, in partnership with a private company: “The Philippines is releasing to the market another anti-diabetic sweetener that may have greater export prospects than the limited volume of coconut sap sugar.
“The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) is financing the production of sweet sorghum sugar including product improvement and testing, fabrication of the milling facility, and marketing. The project is estimated to initially cost P4 million.
RP TO EXPORT ANTI-DIABETES SWEETENER: “The sweetener from sweet sorghum cane may make the Philippines known in the international market as a bigger producer of natural sweetener. This is because sweet sorghum is drought resistant and is suitable for planting in non-irrigated, marginal areas, according to BAR Director Nicomedes P. Eleazar.
“ `We hope this becomes a commercial success because there is a big need for anti-diabetic products in the local and export market. Fortunately, we have the technical capability to produce sweet sorghum with the assistance to us,’ said Eleazar…”
