LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… In God, whose word I praise---in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Psalm 56:4, the Holy Bible).

WAITER NEEDS HELP FOR HIS BABY: Vic Castro, a waiter at the Ilustrado Restaurant in Intramuros, Manila who has become a very good friend of Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Intramuros who meet there every Thursday, needs the help of God’s people right now: his second baby, a boy who is only one year and 10 months old, is suffering from TB meningitis, requiring a lot of caring and patience and, more importantly, cash for medicine.

Vic is only a waiter, and the only breadwinner in his family which consists of his wife and another child, a six year old toddler. He came to me and Dr. Art Platon, a surgeon and a past president of RC Intramuros while we were at the restaurant last Wednesday, May 30, 2012, desperately asking what he could do.

Dr. Platon gave him a chilling assessment: considering the boy’s age and the gravity of the illness, it would be wise to accept his fate, and endeavor try to move on, especially in normally raising his other child. Vic appeared as if a lightning struck him, but then I told him not to give up, and instead raise and lift this particular ailment of his son to God, the greatest Medical Doctor of all.

HOPE AND STRENGTH IN GOD: Indeed, in a grave situation such as this, everyone must find hope and strength in God and in His Word, the Bible. To those who believe and have faith in Him, His grace will be sufficient to weather out every problem, protecting them from harm and assuring them that everything works out well for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

It is therefore an act of wisdom for anyone confronted with grave illnesses---or other grave problems, for that matter---to immediately remember that there is a powerful God (powerful because He created the heavens and the earth, Genesis 1:1 of the Bible) who dearly loves us (John 3:16) and who did not spare His Son for our sake (Romans 8:32), a God who saved us through the blood of His Son (Ephesians 1:7).

This is the same God who makes all things possible and beautiful (Genesis 18:14, Luke 1:37, Ecclesiastes 3:11), the same God who promised wellness for people afflicted with ailments (James 5:14) and power, success and good life for those who live according to His grace (Joshua 1:8, Deuteronomy 28:1-2, Proverbs 3:1-2, Isaiah 40:31 and Matthew 6:33). The challenge now is, let us give God a chance to work His wonders among ourselves today, and the rest of our lives. Grab and read your Bible now!

GOD’S CHOICE FOR CJ: So, President Aquino wishes to bide his time, spend the whole 90 days the Constitution is giving him, to replace Renato Corona as Chief Justice. In the meantime, vested interest groups are now madly pushing for their choices. For me, let God’s will---and choice---be done. For the believers, we must all pray that God’s anointed one---not those whose hearts are blackened with delirious mal-ambitions even to the point of destroying brotherhoods---will be appointed to head the court this time!

GUIDELINES FOR CHOOSING NEXT CJ: And so that President Aquino is guided by God properly in his choice, let me republish at least two of God’s guidelines for installing officials. The first is enunciated in Exodus 18:21 of the Bible which says: “… select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain and appoint them as officials…”

The second is written in Mark 10:43-45: “… whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many…” These guidelines must be obeyed, otherwise, Corona’s example will have been wasted all over again.
