MINDANAO AND SULU MUST BE DECOLONIZED

PDFPrintE-mail

Note: The word “Moro” historically was first used by the Spaniards and later on also by the Americans to refer collectively to all native inhabitants of Mindanao and Sulu. This was officially given recognition by the Philippine Commission when it organized Mindanao and Sulu  as the Moro Province by virtue of PC Act 787 in 1903 and was first administered separately from the Philippine Islands by Major General Leonard Wood as its first Governor.

For me these two ancient Kingdoms were illegally sold and ceded by Spain to the United States and therefore, should be restored as sovereign and independent states under UN Resolution on Decolonization, General Assembly Resolution 1514 (XV). To me, the present peace process is a diplomatic parody.

I admire the two Liberation Fronts in Sulu and Mindanao
For taking up the cudgels to recover these two ancient Kingdoms
They stake all their hopes, dreams, and precious lives
For which the Royalties should have been the first to assert their rights

Are the Royalties no longer interested in their monarchial territories?
Have they really acquiesced and abdicated formally their kingly sovereignties
Or have they granted full powers to the two Liberation Fronts
To negotiate for the restoration of Mindanao and Sulu’s statehood?

To me, THOUGH NOT A LEAGL MIND, this peace process is a total sham
Just like the capitulation of Manila following a mock war
For the GPH has no diplomatic or juridical personality
To give away any piece of territory
Establishing any kind of Muslim autonomy

There’s no document in history that supports the claim
That Mindanao and Sulu belong to the Philippines
Neither is there any renowned historian that asserts with all certainty
That these two Islamic kingdoms were Spanish colonies

Granting for the sake of argument
That Mindanao and Sulu were conquered by Spain
But the native warriors recaptured all their territories
Restoring full independence and statehood
Before the unconstitutional conquest by the G.I. Joes

Written assertions of historians, documents, and references
Narrate explicitly that Mindanao and Sulu were not really conquered
Nor were they components of Aguinaldo’s controversial First Republic
Therefore, their sale to the United States by Spain in Paris on December 10, 1898
In my perspective was grossly irregular and fraudulent

The sad thing about these periodic violent clashes
Between the armies of the Liberation Fronts and the GPH
Is the fact that combatants belong to the same race
Accidentally divided by lines of ideology and religion
At the point of the sword or consensual conversions

Forgive me for saying
That the GPH is not the right party to negotiate peace with
For Mindanao and Sulu are not its legal components
They were sold by Spain to the United States
Without the monarchial owners’ consent and knowledge
Only the United Nations’ International Court of Justice has
Jurisdiction over this case in my personal belief

If you vehemently disagree
May I refer you to December 10, 1898 Paris Treaty
In the lines and coordinates of Article Three
Mindanao and Sulu were surreptitiously included
As Spanish territories

SO UNLESS THE ROYALTIES
ADMIT THAT THEY HAVE TOTALLY LOST THEIR SOVEREIGNTIES
BY ACT OF DEBELLATIO
MINDANAO AND SULU MUST BE DECOLONIZED AND RETURNED TO US, MOROS
AND PRONTO!
