Cebu shocker: mama leaves son over lover

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful…” (Joshua 1:8, the Holy Bible).

MOTHER LEAVES SON IN A GARBAGE DUMP JUST TO BE WITH LOVER: Cebu City and the entire province of Cebu are now being rocked by a heart-rending scandal caused by a 30-year old mother who left her four-year old boy near a garbage pile in nearby Mandaue City just so she could travel to Bohol with her lover. The question that is now uppermost in the minds of Cebuanos because of this is: how can a mother leave a boy of tender years just to be with a lover?

The boy got lucky because someone got interested in him, reported his plight to the police which took him into custody, and which arrested the mother later as she was about to board a boat for Bohol with the lover. The mother subsequently denied she left the boy all to himself, saying that he was supposed to be picked up near the garbage pile by a relative, but the police did not believe her.

The argument was that, even assuming the boy was to be picked up by a relative, still his mother had no right to leave him all alone, with no assurance that the relative would be able to find and really get him. She was charged with violating Republic Act 7610, the current anti-child abuse law in the Philippines.

MADNESS AND CONFUSION OF MIND: Indeed, how can a mother have the heart to leave a son who is only four years old near a garbage site? The boy is the flesh of her flesh, the blood of her blood, and she was responsible for bringing him into this world. How can she choose a lover over this son, who, she knows, does not yet have sufficient discernment to enable him to protect himself from even the least harm?

This must have happened only because she has lost her marbles, so to speak. Meaning, she must have been afflicted with madness, or some confusion of mind. Indeed, only a mother who is mad, or confused of mind, or who has lost her marbles, can afford to leave the flesh of her flesh or the blood of her blood to the mercy of the elements, and be unconcerned over whether he will remain alive or will die.

This is pathetic and pitiable, but then, madness and confusion of mind are curses from God, arising from man’s refusal to listen to the Word of God, and to obey His commands. This is what Deuteronomy 28:15 and 28 of the Holy Bible is saying: “However, if you do not listen to His Word and do not obey His commands, all of these curses will come upon you and overtake you… The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind…”

GROWING UP WITHOUT GOD: How did it happen that the mother was slapped with God’s curses of madness and confusion of mind? The news reports did not say how, but then, I am almost sure that it could have only been because she grew up without the Word of God being taught to her. Since she grew up without the Word of God (which Word is God Himself according to John 1:1), she grew up without God.

And because the woman grew up without God, with whom did she grow up? Certainly, with the enemy of God, the devil. That being the case, it wouldn’t be difficult to see that God’s curses would come upon her, including the curses of madness and confusion of mind which enabled her to leave her son near a garbage dump.

Sadly, the same malady afflicts many Filipinos nowadays. Because many of us are no longer taught the Word of God in schools, homes, and even in many of the churches which claim to be Christians, we have many generations of Filipinos who grew up without God. It is no wonder then that most of God’s curses, listed in the Book of Deuteronomy in the Bible, are evident among many Filipinos at present.
