Foreigners’ domination of RP not unusual

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… `For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, `plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’…” (Jeremiah 29:11, the Holy Bible).

FOREIGNER’S DOMINATION OF RP ECONOMY NOT UNUSUAL: Solita “Winnie” Monsod, the columnist, wrote that 15 ethnic Chinese---meaning, those with pure Chinese blood, who were born either in China or in the Philippines---dominate the Philippine economy. So, my dear Professor Winnie, is this something unusual or extraordinary? The answer is no, if one is a reader and a believer of the Christian Bible.

The fact is that, domination of any country’s economy (not just the Philippine economy) by foreigners---not just by ethnic Chinese---is actually written in the Bible, particularly in its Deuteronomy 28:15, 43-44. What do these verses say? Deuteronomy 28:15 lays out the general prediction. It says: “However, if you no longer listen to God or you no longer obey His commands, all of these curses will come upon you and overtake you…”

On the other hand, we find some of these curses specifically spelled out in Deuteronomy 28:43-44: “The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower. They will lend to you, but you will not lend to them. They will be the head, but you will be the tail…” There! This should be one solid proof that the Bible is a very accurate Book, even on economy!

CAN NATIVE FILIPINOS BECOME RICH, TOO? The question many are interested in right now is this: can ethnic Filipinos ever regain the Philippine economy for themselves so that, like the foreigners who live or reside among them, they, too, can become billionaires, in US dollars yet? The answer is yes, they can, but they must realize that the first real step to economic wealth is sincere and true spiritual rebirth and transformation.

The fact is that, many native Filipinos have tried almost everything to become wealthy, and they have been trying to do so over a long period of time now, to no avail (to use a cliché). I am convinced that, at this point, those without any foreigner’s blood running in their veins can try some Biblical prescriptions on how to become successful and prosperous, and see what will happen next.

The first verse that comes to my mind is Joshua 1:8 which says, “Do not let the Book of the Law depart from your lips, meditating on it day and night, and carefully following everything that is written in it. Then you will become prosperous and successful.” The same message is actually echoed in many other parts of the Bible, notably Deuteronomy 28:1-14, Proverbs 3:1-2 and Matthew 6:33.

“WE ARE HEADED FOR THE WORST”: Lawyer Ray Fagutao, a fellow member at the Internet group “capizforum”, sent this reaction: “23 June 2012. Atty. Mauricio, the world has changed many times over. We are headed for the worst. There was a time when goodness was the rule and not the exception. It is different now. People cheer when good triumphs over evil as if it is a big surprise. Few remember the lessons of morality, honesty, honor, respect and fairness.

“God will judge us for our deeds. There will be no political, economic, religious and social reasons for excuse and/or justification for our sins. It will be our personal understanding of what is good or bad. Who can ever say before Him, `Lord I do not know what is good or bad?’

“Wealth and power are means to do good and not otherwise. It is their overdose that obstruct the senses and drive one to commit sin. Change must come from within and not somewhere else. Change in the way we think is necessary for goodness to prevail. We have the will to change. We just do not have the proper mind frame to start and be consistent. Thank you. Atty. Ray Fagutao.”
