Disaster summits worthless

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse  of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands…” (Deuteronomy 28:1, 12, the Holy Bible).

HERE’S A CURE FOR BRAIN DRAIN: Brain drain, or the departure for abroad en masse of Filipino professionals trained in science and technology, including medicine, nursing and allied health professions, is not simply due to our countrymen’s desire to earn better wages.

It is, according to the Bible, similarly a product of our people straying away from God---meaning, our people are no longer reading His Bible and are no longer obeying Him---so that, viewed from that perspective, there is really no stopping this phenomenon in the days to come. It will become worse, and it will expose more Filipinos to abuses, suffering, and even death, like what is happening now.

This is what Deuteronomy 28:15 and 32 are saying. Therefore, one way to address brain drain is to bring back our people to God, through daily Bible reading, day and night meditation on what is written therein, and sincere obedience to every command of God inscribed in its pages. This is what Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Matthew 6:33, among others, are saying. Please read them.

GOSPEL PROCLAMATION, DUTY OF ALL BELIEVERS: I wish Pope Benedict XVI was more detailed in describing what he meant by the phrase “New Evangelization” in his message to Filipino Catholic bishops holding their 105th Plenary Assembly. I mean, what did His Holiness mean “New Evangelization”? New doctrine? Or new zeal in propagating the doctrine already enshrined in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible?

My view is that all believers, whether Catholics or those coming from other groups, must now study and then strive to proclaim everywhere the Gospel of Christ, because that is what Jesus, our God and Savior, requires to be done before the end of the world will come, in Matthew 24:14. Proclamation of the Word is no longer the sole prerogative of the priests, pastors and other religious leaders, in view of the imminence of the end.

Every believer now has a duty to evangelize---that is, preach the Word---right inside their homes, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and everywhere, and then to baptize everyone in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and make them the disciples of God, teaching them everything that Jesus commanded us to do (see Matthew 28:19-20). The end is near, so this duty is now very vital.

DISASTER SUMMITS WORTHLESS: The Cordillera Summit on Disaster Risk Reduction Multi-Hazard Awareness in Baguio City was a good attempt at giving awareness to our people about natural calamities and global warming and climate change, but it is once again a puny effort worthy of nothing since it did not include a discussion on the spiritual dimension of environment destruction.

As Filipinos are fond of saying whenever something is wasted, the Baguio City summit is “sayang” (or, loosely, “what a waste”), because no matter how one will think about this, there is no human effort that can stop global warming and climate change at this point. We have crossed the Rubicon, as it were, and there is no more turning back for the ecological devastation which thousands of years of neglect wrought upon this world.

The only cure against extreme weather disturbances now is God, and it is amazing that not only has He warned us repeatedly of the calamities that are happening now, but that He has also provided clear and concise prescriptions showing us how to survive. Just to cite two of these clear prescriptions: Deuteronomy 20:15, 22-23, and Matthew 7:24-27. Please read them now, before it is too late.
