Ingratitude to God at Phivolcs

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, `Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens’…” (Hebrews 12:26, the Holy Bible).

COJUANGCO LED RP TO VICTORY IN SEA GAMES:After Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV sought the ouster of former Tarlac Rep. Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. as president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) allegedly because Cojuangco lacked a clear vision for sports development in the country, reactions came in clarifying that it was after Cojuangco was elected POC head in 2004 that we successfully hosted the 23rd  Southeast Asian Games, becoming even the Games’ overall champion for that year.

One reaction particularly clarified: as the newly-installed leader of Philippine sports, Cojuangco led the country to victory, clinching the first ever championship of the Southeast Asian Games since 1977.

And since that time, up to this date, Cojuangco has successfully stirred POC to a strict adherence to the International Olympic Committee Guidelines on the Good Governance of Olympic Parties, that is, the POC and the national sports associations (more of these reactions next issue).

PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD: Matthew 4:17, Mark 1:14 and Luke 4:15 of the Bible contain an account of what Jesus pursued after having been baptized by John the Baptist, His cousin. This part of the life of Jesus is called “the proclamation of the Kingdom of God.”

In Matthew 4:17, the story is told that when Jesus heard that John the Baptist had been put in prison, He returned to Galilee, and then lived in Capernaum, by the lake in Zebulun and Naphtali, to fulfill what the prophet Isaiah said.

“From that on, Jesus began to preach,” the same Biblical verse says, and what Jesus started to preach was this: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” In Mark 1:14, an almost identical account is found, thus: “After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. `The time has come’, he said. `The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news.’”

INGRATITUDE TO GOD AT PHIVOLCS: It was ingratitude to God of the highest order when scientists and officials of the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said it was due to pure luck and scientific forces that the country was spared from the atomic bomb effect of the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the country’s eastern provinces last Friday, 31 August 2012.

If the Philippines and Filipinos did not taste death and destruction from the earthquake even if it equaled the force of 32 Hiroshima atomic bombs, it was because God chose to spare us---not because of luck, not because of any scientific forces. Indeed, as the Bible in Hagai 2:6 says: “This is what the Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land’...”

Phivolcs and its scientists must retract what they said, otherwise, God will allow the next earthquake to really be deadly and destructive, on the strength of Romans 1:18-32 of the Bible. For all other Filipinos, the Friday earthquake is actually a warning: the big one is coming, so we must all go back to God once more: read His Bible and obey His commands.
