Tip on choosing next disaster czar

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God… The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground…” (Deuteronomy 28:2, 11, the Holy Bible).

TIP ON WHO SHOULD BE NEXT DISASTER CZAR: Here is an unsolicited advice to the Office of the President before it names the next disaster czar of the country, or the next executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to replace outgoing director Benito Ramos: choose not only the best retired military officer, but a person who has a big background on Biblical spirituality.

This should be so because it should be clear by now that rains, floods and winds, and all the other natural calamities that have been plaguing our country in recent years, have strong Biblical and spiritual links, so that anyone wanting to reduce or manage the death and destruction arising from them should be guided not only by technical responses but also by Biblical truths.

Sample of Biblical verses about rains, floods and winds, coming from Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, come from Matthew 7:24-27. The next disaster boss of the Aquino government must know these Biblical admonitions about natural calamities, including those pertaining to global warming and climate change, so he or she could be an effective official.

MORE OF THE BIBLE, PLEASE: So, okay, some 4 million devotees of the Sto. Nino in Cebu City will troop to the place to join the Sinulog festivities which will start this Sunday. But other than the dancing and the revelries, I am suggesting that the Roman Catholic Church in the city undertake more activities that will entice Catholics to read and meditate, and obey, the Bible more often.

While it is alright to celebrate and have fun, the necessities of the times now---where it is clear that the end of the world is just around the corner---is for people to be more aware of God’s Word as expressed in the Bible, and become truly spiritual by knowing God’s commandments at heart, and then obeying them sincerely and truthfully.

For it is only by knowing God’s Word and obeying it that a nation is blessed with God’s protection, direction and benediction---not really by festivals, celebrations and outward manifestations of happiness. There are countless Biblical verses which attest to this truth---Matthew 6:33, Proverbs 3:1-2, Isaiah 40:31, Deuteronomy 28:1-14, among others. The time has come to teach believers what really matters for salvation and eternal life with God.

FLU & FEVER HIT US MAINLAND: DZBB top announcers Mike Enriquez and Joel Reyes Zobel reported Tuesday morning, January 15, 2013, that about 47 of the 51 states of the United States of America are experiencing flu epidemic and other illnesses from fever and burning body temperatures, with no immediate relief in sight for Americans afflicted with the disease.

Many will say that this is due to the current very cold temperatures enveloping much of the American mainland, and this maybe true. But then, there is a Biblical warning about these kinds of high fever and indescribable high body temperatures, which says that high fever and burning body temperatures will afflict a people who no longer listen to God and who no longer obey Him.

Maybe, US health authorities should, in their frenzy to find a cure, try to read this Biblical warning, contained under Deuteronomy 28:15 and 22-23. Deuteronomy 28:15, 22-23 say: “However, if you no longer listen to the Lord your God and no longer obey Him, these curses will come upon you and overtake you… The Lord will strike you with… wasting disease, fever and inflammation…”
