God’s wrath vs. mediaman killer

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS:“… `everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash’…” (Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, in Matthew 7:26-27, the Holy Bible).

ANOTHER MEDIAMAN KILLED: I condole with the family of Mario Maximo Sy, 53, a photojournalist who was a colleague of mine with the Jubelag Family-owned “Sapol” daily tabloid in General Santos City, who was mercilessly killed by a lone gunman right inside his house in Bgy. Dadiangas West, infront of his wife and daughter, on the evening of August 01, 2013.

What will be more problematic in Sy’s death is the apparent lack of leads as to who killed him, which is actually the same nagging problem in the cases of other newsmen who were killed in other parts of the Philippines. Regrettably, this lack of leads as to who killed Sy, or who possibly ordered his liquidation, will consign his tragic death to the dustbin of the continually-growing list of mediamen who have not been given justice at all.

If reports are true that Sy’s killing was related to his profession as a photojournalist, the undeniable truth is that, the killing was actually useless. There will be others who will be willing to take up his cause, no matter how dangerous the stakes maybe. One mediaman killed will only mean more mediamen rising up to the occasion. The death of Sy may have silenced him for a while, but others will, sooner or later, make noise all over again.

KILLING VIOLATES GOD’S TEN COMMANDMENTS: Surely, killing is a violation of one of the Ten Commandments of God, as enshrined under Exodus 20 of the Holy Bible. In verse 13, Exodus 20 warns: “You shall not kill…” The penalty if one kills another is for the killer to be killed likewise, as Genesis 9:5-6 of the Bible is saying.             This is what Genesis 9:5-6 says: “And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being. `Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind’…”

What is more frightening for the killer or, if he took his orders to kill from someone else, for the mastermind of the killing is this: because they violated God’s commandments against killing, they are not the only ones who will be punished for the crime. Even their children, to the third and fourth generation, shall also be punished by God.

EVEN THE KILLER’S CHILDREN WILL BE PUNISHED WITH DEATH: This is what the last part of Exodus 20:5 of the Bible is saying: “.. for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me…” And this punishment for the killer’s (or the mastermind’s) children, to the fourth generation, will be meted to them, not only in the “after life”, but even here on earth.

Deuteronomy 28:15 spells out this truth in this manner: “… However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you…”

There are 52 curses in all, listed in Deuteronomy 28:16 to 68. And this part of the Bible is clear: the curses are meant not just to correct, but to really kill. This is shown by the phrase “until you are destroyed”, repeated several times after every curse. Surely, God is not sleeping. He is not apathetic to what is happening in this world. The rules He laid down in His Bible make sure that justice and truth shall prevail, even for the most secret of crimes.
