DOJ violating senators’ rights

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding…” (Proverbs 9:10, the Holy Bible).

STROKES AMONG THE YOUTH RISING: There is a scary warning from Paris, France, about more and more younger people becoming victims of strokes, allegedly because of unhealthy lifestyles. The warning, published by The Lancet Medical Journal, says that “there is 25 percent increase in the number of strokes among those aged between 20 and 64 over the past 20 years, now making up 31 percent of the total compared to 25 percent before 1990.”

Could this be a fulfillment of the warning that as more and more people stray away from God, no longer listening to His Word and no longer obeying His commands, they will be afflicted with “wasting diseases, with fever and inflammation” until they perish? If so, there is only one way for the youth to fight this off—by going back to God by listening to His Word and obeying His commands.

MVP GROUP A BIG HELP FOR CALAMITY VICTIMS: Laudable, admirable, impressive. Surely, these are three words that could best describe what the MVP Group of Companies of businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan had been doing to help Filipinos who were hit by earthquakes this month. Many of those afflicted are praying that not only Pangilinan’s companies would be doing this kind of service, but others as well.

Indeed, there is a reason why success and wealth are bestowed by God. It is to enable those who are greatly favored to help those who are in need, so that more and more people will find the opportunity to thank God. If we want to experience the same victory and material prosperity, therefore, there is a need for us to be more generous to those who are in need of our help.

DOJ VIOLATING SENATORS’ CHARTER RIGHTS: With due respect to Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, her mere request to cancel the passports of Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile and Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla already constitutes a violation of the senators’ Constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, as well as their right to travel.

It is as if De Lima is saying that, at this point that the charges linking Enrile, Estrada and Revilla to the P10 billion pork barrel scam are still being investigated by the Ombudsman, they could already be penalized and their Constitutional rights set side by the cancellation of their passports.

This is a dangerous precedent, and could open the floodgates of more violation of the Constitutional rights of other people. I mean, if the Constitutional rights of our senators could be waylaid just like that, it is going to be a lot easier waylaying the rights of ordinary Filipinos. This, too, is scary.

BATTLE FOR “TOCINO” MARKET ON: Did you notice the fierce on-going battle for the control of the local “tocino” (sweetened pork) market? One food manufacturer started it all by coming out with an advertisement which asked, “Ikaw, saan gawa ang tocino mo?” (“You, where is your tocino, or sweetened pork, made?”). The evident intent was to suggest that there is a problem in the way the sweetened pork product of a competitor is being processed or manufactured.

Feeling alluded to, the competitor launched its own advertisement which countered, “Hindi to’ cino-cino lang” (meaning, “This is not just anybody”). Obviously, what the competitor wanted to say, in retort, was that its sweetened pork product is being processed not just by any ordinary processor or manufacturer, but by one that has been the conceded long-time leader in food processing and manufacturing in the country. Who will win in this fight? Let’s wait and see.
