=LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire…” (James 5:1-3, the Holy Bible).
PINOYS ALL WRONG IN PREPARING VS. YOLANDA: Hay naku, Filipinos are really having it all wrong once again, in their preparations for super-typhoon Yolanda. Almost all of them, from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, are going into panic-buying mode, stocking up on food and other emergency items, as if these will save them from the forthcoming wrath of God.
Food and other basic necessities will not save us, if the typhoon is really going to be extra-strong. They may even be blown away by strong winds, or wasted by floods, or simply looted by others. It is therefore totally useless to be stocking up on food at this time.
What Filipinos must be doing now is calling fervently on God, for His protection. But then, it is written that not all who call on God will be listened to or saved by Him. Only those who do His will be responded to by Him. So, we must endeavor to know His will and then obey it, to save us from Yolanda and other future calamities. We can do this by reading, meditating on, and obeying the Bible. Now!
STEM CELL THERAPY AND ETERNAL LIFE: Can stem cell therapy among the rich really keep them healthy and strong even in their old age? I doubt it, especially at this point that there is as yet no medical certainty, accepted by medical practitioners worldwide, that stem cell therapy is really effective. But even if it will give health, can stem cell therapy guarantee the rich and the moneyed a life in heaven after they are gone from this world?
NAPOLES SENATE HEARING, USELESS: The face-off at the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee of Janet Lim Napoles and her former employees who turned whistle-blowers against her will not yield anything new. I am sure Napoles cannot be forced to say anything. Fact is, she can refuse to answer any and all questions from the senators. She cannot be compelled to say anything, even if they threaten to imprison her, for she is already in prison, right? I say that her Senate appearance is just a waste of time, money and effort.
CAN PNOY BE GAGGED BY SC? The issue of whether or not President Aquino can be ordered by the Supreme Court to stop talking on the issue of pork barrel and his disbursement acceleration program or DAP is interesting. First, can the court stop a president from talking, even on a case that is already pending before it? Second, can the president disregard the law which says that no one should be talking about anything already pending in the courts?
REPORT FROM ZAMBOANGA CITY: Here is a report from our Zamboanga City correspondent, Mon Quin: “More than 5,000 residents of Bgy. Labuan participated in the `2nd Barangay General Assembly’ held last Saturday as its Chairman Ronald `Oning’ Ongchua Maravilla reported its various accomplishments for the first semester of 2013.
“In an interview at his office, Maravilla reported that his barangay extended assistance to their public elementary and secondary schools and held meetings with the Muslim community, especially the imams and uztadz, to seek their help in defending and protecting their barangay against possible atrocities that might occur at any time.
“He added that during the early dawn attack in the city, his barangay intensified and supported the police and the military, especially in the implementation of the curfew hours…”
