LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say `No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope---the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ…” (Titus 2:11-13, the Holy Bible).

FASTING VS. RAINS, FLOODS, WINDS: Still on Yolanda, I make a second appeal to Filipino Christians who belong to different churches, sects or denominations nationwide: we must organize a fast among our members, followed by a more furious Bible study focusing on its verses on rains, floods, and rains, and even global warming and climate change, and then by an intense prayer for the spiritual return of all Filipinos. Now!

FILIPINOS AS HELPLESS VICTIMS OF NATURE & CORRUPTION: From former Chairman Perfecto Yasay Jr. of the Securities and Exchange Commission: “Do we Filipinos ever wonder why despite the regularity of the severe beatings we receive from powerful storms, we have never succeeded in minimizing their destructive effects upon our lives and properties?

“This is similar to our incessant commitment to address the recurrent obstacles to national progress and yet end up doing very poorly in achieving our goals. Are we simply fated as the helpless victims of the growing harshness of the forces of nature and the worsening corruption and ineptness in government service?”

VIOLENCE IN ZAMBO POLLS, 2 DEAD: From Mon Quin, our correspondent from Zamboanga City: “A grenade lobbed by unidentified men at a political rally which was being held Monday night (November 11, 2013) inside the house of re-electionist Chairman Diostedes Librero Bubgay of Bgy. Ayala, Zamboanga City killed Buggay, 53, and his candidates for kagawad, Elvic Serra Gregorio and Cecilia Vita Ebol Carpio.

“Wounded were barangay kagawads Alex Carpio, 47, Victoria Darlene Gorit Padernal, 49 and Edgar Flore Enriquez, and employees Edgar Toralba, Bernadito Santos Bucoy, Daniel Carpio, Arcenio Cuerda Agustin, Novelita Orina Librero, Reyes Jones Salanguit, and Alviz Fernandez, all of Bgy. Ayala. Motive is still undetermined, but politics and the forthcoming special barangay elections in the city are being eyed.”

REAL SITUATION IN TACLOBAN CITY: From a Facebook post by Michael D. Sellers, quoting a message from his friend who managed to get to Tacloban City after Yolanda, describing the chaos and disorder in the city (with our translation of some parts): “Favor please. Kindly write something and post it on FB and make sure ma-spread ito para makaabot sa lintik na gobyerno natin.

“Relief goods are not being well distributed. No rescue team. You cannot even see any soldier. If there are any such soldiers, they are there at the airport with their mouths open, doing nothing. Hence, still no food, water, gas and basic necessities around. That is the main reason why there is rampant looting. Again, no relief goods are still being distributed.

“Even after the lapse of several days, there are still no relief goods. People are starving, but they are not killing each other, so please stop that bull…. news that people here are already hurting one another, chasing after people from Manila who are known to possess food stuff. I’ve been walking for two days now, with water and food, and yet no one has accosted me.

“I even have to voluntarily share my food and they would thank me. Some would offer us a ride, those who have vehicles, but that rarely happened because there is no more gasoline here. To government officials, stop bragging that there is more than enough relief goods and rescue team! That is bull….!” More of this next time.
