LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… bring up (your children) in the training and instruction of the Lord…” (Ephesians 6:4, the Holy Bible).

ZAMBOANGA HONORS “LIVING HEROES”: And now, for the good news, here’s a report from Ramon Ongchua Quin, Jr., this column’s man in Zamboanga City: “Mayor Maria Isabelle G. Climaco will honor the fallen, and pay tribute to the `Living Heroes’, in the 25 day-Zamboanga City Siege in a ceremony on Monday, 02 December 2013, at 8:00 o’clock in the morning at the City Hall Grounds.

“Zamboanga City Fire Marshal Supt. Dominador F. Zabala, Jr. leads those to be honored as the `Living Heroes’ of the Zamboanga Siege.  Climaco told Zabala that `Zamboanga City is grateful for your presence and steadfast leadership during the Zamboanga Siege, and said she is grateful for the gallantry and valiant service of the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP)…”

ROTARIANS URGED: HELP SCHOOL CHILDREN IN YOLANDA AREAS: How can school children from the areas in the Visayas ravaged by Yolanda be enticed to forget the trauma of their tragic experience with the deadly super typhoon and recover their interest to study again?

The Rotary Club of Intramuros, Manila of Rotary International’s District 3810 has the answer: give them the materials they could use to resume their studies, that’s how. The club’s experience, almost after every typhoon and other natural calamities, is that, children can be persuaded to go back to their schools once again if they are gifted with even the most basic of school supplies.

With this in mind, a member of the club who is a past district governor of District 3810, Ms. Lyne Abanilla of the Manila Bulletin, is mobilizing its members and Rotarians from Australia and Japan, to donate some 10,000 kits containing school supplies, called as “Gamit-Aral Bags”.

CAMPAIGN FOR “GAMIT-ARAL” BAGS ON: Abanilla wrote this letter to the members of the Rotary Club of Intramuros: “Dear Fellow Leaders of RCI,  fellow Rotarians:  The campaign to gather as many `Gamit-Aral Bags’  for the school children who survived the recent Typhoon Yolanda  is on!
“From the initial target of 5,000 bags, I think we can go as high as 10,000 if all of us  will really do our modest share and work together to achieve yet another wonderful and meaningful desire of fellow Ilustres  to do something we can do best, to give hope to thousands of school children  when their schools open soon.

“Past Presidents Floren Naguit and Jimmy Lim will continue to give you updates in today’s meeting. We have been blessed with pledges from our partners in Japan,  Australia and from the Past Presidents’ Council of District 3810 and of the Visionary Presidents’ Team, and we are still awaiting some positive responses  from our other partners.

“Your P150.00  will adopt a school child,  your P1,500 will adopt 10 school children,  your P5,000  will probably adopt the school children in one class, and  wouldn’t that be a class act!!!  Be Part, Get involved, donate! Yours in Rotary service,
PDG Lyne.”
