(BY: ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Do not be anxious about anything. But, in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God…” (Philippians 4:6, the Holy Bible).
FILIPINOS’ ONLY OPTION: OBEY GOD: Another reaction from Mr. Dante Ochoa, a fraternity brother of mine from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City: “All through my years I have come to believe that only a moral society can produce moral leadership. A society cannot produce a political leader to provide moral leadership if it is not moral itself.
“Jesus has proclaimed that Caesar’s belong to Caesar; to God what is God’s and from then on even Christians prefer pragmatic political leadership over moral leadership because people’s judgment of leadership is here and now while judgment of morality is in the hereafter.
“Filipinos being devout Christians believe in the hereafter. So they are willing to take a chance on the here and now and worry about the hereafter which to many may not even be there. Filipinos’ option: it can only follow God’s teachings to guide their political decisions because a political leadership is by nature self-serving and may not be able to offer the people a moral and selfless choice and of course the truth… Thank you! Dante ’66…”
SUICIDES AND LACK OF BIBLE READING: Did you notice that committing suicide is now becoming frequent not only in the Philippines but in other countries as well? The latest suicide was no other than American comedian and actor Robin Williams. In all of these cases, depression and other mental and emotional disturbance and problems are being cited as the root causes why a person decides to kill himself or herself.
Pardon my saying this but, if only people read the Bible more conscientiously, then they would become more positive in their thoughts and in their outlook, and therefore avoid being depressed and suicide-prone. For example, Proverbs 3:5 tells us that we should trust in the Lord with all our hearts and that we should not lean on our own understanding of things.
Then, Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, said in Matthew 6:27: “Who among you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” Jesus also told us not to worry about our life, about tomorrow, and about the things we need (see Matthew 6:25-32). Instead, Jesus said we should seek first the kingdom of God and live according to His righteousness, and all things will be given to us. In Philippians 4:6, we are told to pray, instead of worry.
PNOY’S RATINGS TO SLIDE SOME MORE: It seems Malacanang is getting hurt by the results of the survey questions which we ask our listeners at the DZEC 1062 kHz daily 6 a.m. program “Tambalang Batas at Somintac”. Some feelers are being sent to me and, apparently, even to my co-host, Vic Somintac, to question the results as lopsided against President Aquino and his officials.
We wish to assure the Office of the President that the results are genuine, and are based only on what our listeners have been texting to us. We read the text messages as they come, without regard to whether or not they are against or are for Aquino. Unlike press releases from the Palace, the results of our surveys are truthful, and reflect the people’s voice all the time.
And truthful was the result of the survey we did on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, with the question, “Can President Aquino still recover from his greatly-diminishing popularity?”, where 100% of those who responded said they believed Aquino will continue to lose popularity in the days to come, unless he becomes sincere in his “good governance” program. Ok?
