(ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… maintain justice in the courts…” (Amos 5:15, the Holy Bible).
AND LAWYERS SAID, “LET THERE BE LIGHT”: It might be providential that, as the Supreme Court is tightening its campaign against corruption in the judiciary with its order ousting Sandiganbayan Justice Gregory Ong, a group of lawyers from different spiritual groups have decided, a week earlier, to band together to form an organization that will espouse and pursue righteousness in court cases, rebuking any attempt at influence-peddling or bribery to make clients win.
The group is now composed of seven lawyers: two are from the Born Again Movement, one is a Catholic, one is a member of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, one comes from Jehovah’s Witnesses, one is with Islam, and the last is from a Christian church calling itself “Born of God”.
The name of the group is LIGHT, which is an acronym from the first letters of five words. “L” is for “lawyers”, “I” is for “instructed”, “G” is for “God”, “H” is for “holiness” and “T” is for “truth”. LIGHT in short means Lawyers Instructed by God on Holiness and Truth. Its primary reason for being: to enforce and defend clients’ rights with a strict adherence to the Word of God, even when no one is looking.
The seven lawyers are of the view that it is now time to stand up for God in every area of life, more particularly in the exercise of their legal and judicial duties. The lawyers believe that this is the only way to ensure truth and justice to prevail in the legal profession and in the judiciary at a time when they are wracked by controversies. USED AND POLLUTED WATER CAN BE RECYCLED SO THEY COULD BECOME DRINKING WATER AGAIN: Here’s a timely repost from August 2010: “Did you know that, if the government and all of us really wanted to, we can recycle water that people have already used, and even the water from septic tanks and other polluted sources, and then use that recycled water even for drinking purposes?
“This was what Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Intramuros of Manila, under Rotary International’s District 3810, learned Thursday, August 19, 2010, during their regular weekly meeting, with Global President Andy Chua presiding.
“The information on water recycling was given by Arnold `Arnie[ Acero, the president and chief executive officer of Technotest Incorporated, one of the Philippine’s prime companies engaged in recycling water, which holds office at Technotest Center, 893 EDSA, Quezon City (phone number is 924-2004, website is www.technotestinc.com).
TECHNOTEST INC., PRIME MOVER OF RECYCLED WATER: “Arnie told unbelieving Rotarians that water is not really getting scarce anywhere in the world, because it is just going `round and round’ around us, so that the volume of water found on earth since creation is the same volume as of this very moment. All that is needed is to hasten the “round and round’ process of water cycle to produce new fresh water, and this is what Technotest has done, he said.
“By virtue of the process developed by Technotest, Arnie said, even water from septic tanks and sewers anywhere, including water coming from human bodies such as urine, can be recycled and then used again even for drinking purposes…”
