Thy Will Be Done! Nothing more nothing less nothing else

(BY: BRO. PAENG SANTOS) We are constantly forming new plans, beginning new enterprises and entering upon new and uncertain experiences. Hence we need to acknowledge our relationship to the Almighty who inhabits eternity – our Maker, our Sovereign Ruler, our Judge and our GOD. It is our duty and privilege to look up to Him, “with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning,” (James 1:17) that He may be the strength of our hearts in our defenselessness.

The shortness and uncertainty of human life is another reason why we should feel dependence on GOD. The Bible reveals: “What is (our) life? It is even a vapour, that appears for a while and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). The proper way for us to acknowledge our dependence on GOD is to refer to His will in all our plans and undertakings, to say, “If the Lord is willing, we shall live, and do this, or that” (John 4:15).

Now… “are we unquestionably submissive and reliant creatures?” Obedience is free agency, but remember – our misery arises from asserting our own wills. Let us all be reminded of the eternality of GOD and of our destination to another world and an endless life.

GOD is in eternity, and the terms past and future do not apply to His existence. There is no succession of events in His Omniscient consciousness. All that has been, is now and ever shall be is constantly before His eye. There is no future that is to disclose any new thing to Him; there is no past of which His memory can bring anything forgotten by Him.

It is not so with our knowledge. We inadequately know the past. The present glides by and we have but a partial knowledge of it. The future we do not know at all. As mere creatures, our chief work is to subject our purposes to those of the Supreme will.  We must not for a moment suppose that we are at liberty to proceed without reference to anyone but ourselves. We may have our own wills only as our wills harmonize with God’s will.

GOD’s will is the only firm ground. All events occur in conformity with His will, and whoever falls in with it is truly blessed. We must therefore, in our plans and purposes refer first to the Divine will. As Jesus prayed, (Matthew 26:39) our prayers and the real desire of our hearts must be: “Thy will be done!” Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing else.

TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY
