“Once saved, always saved”: what is it?

(BY: ATTY. BATAS  MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering… he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed…” (Isaiah 53:4-5, the Holy Bible).

“ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED”: WHAT IS IT? The regular Wednesday Bible immersion and administrative deliberations of the Anak ng Diyos Kadugo Ni Kristo (AND KNK, or Children of God Blood Kin of the Christ) Church in Diliman, Quezon City last November 19, 2014, gave rise to an interesting question: is a believer who had become a child of God and blood kin of the Christ after baptism already saved eternally from hell?

What if, one preacher asked, the believer who had become a child of God and blood kin of the Christ after baptism wittingly or unwittingly committed sin in the meantime? Doesn’t he become subject to some passages in the Bible which say that a believer who obeyed all the commandments would still be considered a sinner if he committed just one infraction or violated just one command?

The inspired answer was: if a believer was baptized as a child of God and blood kin of the Christ, he is saved forever, notwithstanding his commission of sin, or many other sins, after his baptism and before his death. In other words, the doctrine that the Church derived from this inspired answer was this: once saved, always saved, if one becomes a child of God and blood kin of the Christ.

THE CHURCH OF JESUS FROM THE FAR EAST: A few clarifications must be hurriedly given though, to explain how the AND KNK arrived at its inspired answer. The first clarification is this: the believer must first become a child of God blood kin of the Christ according to the procedure laid down by the Bible, and then be baptized into the AND KNK Church, so he can avail, as it were, of the “once saved, always saved” doctrine.

Once the believer becomes a child of God and blood kin of the Christ according to the Word of God, and is baptized into the AND KNK Church, he becomes a member of the Church of Jesus which He said He will Himself build, according to Matthew 16:18 of the Bible, and which God said was His “bird of prey” or the “people” which He will “call from the east, from the far off land” under Isaiah 46:11.

Now, what makes the AND KNK think that it is the Church of Jesus mentioned in Matthew 16:18, or the “bird of prey” or “people” that God will call from the “far east” under Isaiah 46:11? There are many reasons which we will discuss in future columns, God willing, but one reason stands out among the rest: it is the only Church now that is established in the “far east” (or the Philippines) which proclaims Jesus as God and Savior in all earnestness.

QUALIFYING FACTOR FOR SALVATION: To all AND KNK members (who are similarly called AND KNK themselves), belief in, and urgently proclaiming, Jesus as God and Savior, is the qualifying factor that assures them of eternal salvation, even if they sinned along the way. Jesus Himself said this in Matthew 16:13-18 of the Bible.

In those verses, we can see Jesus saying that He will build His Church. Emphatically, Jesus clarified that this is the Church that will afford salvation to all its members because, He said, hell will not have any power over it.

Now, the power of this Church to save its members from hell is anchored on what Jesus said was the “rock” upon which it is to be built. What is this “rock”? “Rock” here means the faith that He is God and Savior, which is the very same faith that Simon Peter professed in Matthew 16:16, and which Jesus later on clarified in Matthew 16:18 as the faith given not by “flesh and blood”, but by the Father in heaven.

ETERNAL SALVATION FOR AND KNK: Clearly, man’s acceptance and belief in Jesus as God and Savior, like what Simon Peter did, is by the sole grace of the Father, and gives the believer the right to become a child of God because he is deemed born of God as John 1:12-13 says, causing the blood of Jesus to cleanse him of his sins (Ephesians 1:7), taking away from him the punishment due him for those sins (Isaiah 53). AND KNK members are therefore saved forever, thank God in the Name of Jesus! -30-
