(BY: BRO. PAENG SANTOS) The Kingdom of God is the rule of God in men’s hearts and lives. This rule of God, however, calls for a definite program of right living. And this program demands that we hold before ourselves continually certain great laws of God’s Kingdom.
Righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit are the main thing in God’s Kingdom. And this means that one must be right with God and man, in order to have peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us, “For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men” (Romans 14:17-18).
Matthew 6:33 reads: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you.” And one of the Beatitudes reads: “Blessed are they that do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
A strange beatitude! For to be hungry is bad enough; but to be desperately hungry and thirsty seems to make one’s case nearly hopeless. But the divine Master, however, says that in the Kingdom of heaven it is precisely the opposite. It is most blessed when one has a genuine hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Only those in deep conscious need can gain the ear and favour of God. God never gives a special blessing to any soul that is satisfied, that has no conscious need. A deep sense of need must take hold of any one before he can come to God for any blessing. Blessed, then, are all, they that hunger and thirst for righteousness. God is for them. He is very near to everyone of them. But God also waits until the sense of need is so great that the soul is in distress, if not in desperation. And in his own perfect timing, God will help them and bless them.
Anyone who daily hungers and thirst for a better life, he will find it. God’s own power and grace put this longing in our hearts! It is our deepest and highest and holiest need. And those who hunger and thirst for righteousness have the promise of growth and development. God has promised that we “shall be filled.”
Only the hungry and thirsty have power to eat and drink of the great truth and righteousness of God. And more than any earthly parent, God always answers the call of the hungry child. And a man’s health can be measured, in most cases, by the depth of his hunger. Only the healthy man gets hungry.
If one does not get hungry, he could be sick or seriously ill – physically, mentally, morally, spiritually. Neither God nor man wants to feed any person that cannot eat.
Seeking God’s kingdom and hungering and thirsting for righteousness means attainment of a better life always. Can there be any greater desire for any human soul than this? Who does not know there is a better life for him? Why not seek it? Who has not felt the call of God to find this better life? Why not answer that call today? How, then, could God deny anyone this blessing? Indeed, to seek God’s Kingdom and Righteousness is a noble life plan and purpose.
