It’s the season of love – let love begets love

(BY: BRO. PAENG SANTOS) It is the season of love and Christians are reminded and preparing to commemorate Heaven’s Greatest Love Story. The Bible tells us, “God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him This is real love – not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (1 John 4:9-10).

Like John 3:16, the above passage is the whole gospel in a single statement or sentence. All home and foreign missions is in it. All charity is in it. All redemption is in it. All salvation from sin is in it. It began in heaven – not in us. “Not that we loved God, but that he loved us.” The Kingdom of the world rest on force, on heredity, on politics, etc. Christianity alone was built on love – heavenly love.

What kind of love is it? What is the message it brings? How may we understand it and open our hearts to it? Should we not let it take hold upon and master our lives? Remember, it began in heaven – not in us. “Not that we loved God, but that he loved us”; and it brought heaven’s best to us – “And sent his Son to appease and be the sole concession for our sins.” It moved God to give up the best in heaven to give the best to us.

The amazing fact of his love is that – the wayward, the worthless, the wicked, the rebellious, the hardened, the young and the old – all of them, even the whole human family, are encompassed in the bounds of his love. His alone was a love that reached out beyond all classes, all races, all conditions of men, to include and to draw all men unto himself.

The Bible reveals that “while we were still sinners God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us” (Romans 5:8). And Jesus loved us to the uttermost (John 13:1). Love not only moved God to give us the best in heaven, but moved us to love him in return. When we open our hearts to his love, we discover that we had opened our hearts to him – for God is love! It is through love that we become children of God and  know we are His children if we continue to love one another for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7).

Love is the supreme test of Christian character. As we celebrate this Season of Love, let it be Superior to all gifts and superior to all deeds. For love comprises and develops the chief of all the Christian Graces. Love never, never fails – always wins!

Christians should take note that the purpose of God’s love is – To serve and to do good to all.  To bless and uplift all, even his persecutors. To suffer for, and save, all who would believe. To make all to be the children of God and heirs and partners with himself – all who came to him.

John was the apostle of love. The crowning part of the teaching of 1 John is to set forth the nature and application of love. God loved us first and we can never outloved  him. Love brings the indwelling presence of God and gives  us perfect assurance in the Day of Judgement. But God’s love brought a great obligation, and love’s obligations always the greatest. It constrains us to love Him and our brethren in return. It’s the Season of Love – Let love begets love!

TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY
