Storm surges will hit RP more frequently

(BY: ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord…” (Joel 2:30-31, the Holy Bible).

STORM SURGES WILL HIT RP MORE FREQUENTLY: The news was not the rains and the strong winds brought about by Ruby. It was about a new phenomenon, the thing to expect, as it were, every time a typhoon comes into the Philippines. It is called a “storm surge”. In plain language, it is water rushing from the sea towards the seashores, and far into the lands facing the seas.

Yolanda started it all, causing as many as 15,000 to die by drowning, even if President Aquino wanted to suppress the truth about the real number of those who died last year. Now, one year later in 2014, Ruby continued to display the same ferocious and angry cascading of waters from the sea, causing people to worry and be perplexed and confused and be anguished.

I do not wish to be branded a prophet of doom, but I am willing to bet that storm surges would be the “new normal” in our archipelagic county. Surrounded by bodies of water, our islands would now be hit regularly by the roaring and tossing of the seas around them. Terrifying, yes, but there is really nothing we can do about it, because this development had been foretold to happen.

ANSGUISH, PERPLEXITY “AT THE ROARING AND TOSSING OF THE SEA”: In Luke 21 of the Bible, Jesus, our God and Savior, talks about how the world will end, and how He will return to earth. He gave many signs that, He said, would occur first before the end will happen, and before His return would be accomplished.

Basically repeating what Mark 13 and Matthew 24 said about the end of the world, Luke 21 however gave additional signs by which we could determine that the end is really coming. One of these signs, Jesus said, is this: “…`There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea’...”

If this “roaring and tossing of the sea” is correlated with the phenomenon of the “red moon” which has happened last year and will continue to happen until 2015—“red moon” being the turning of the color of the moon from yellow to red— and with the eclipse and the shedding of blood among many people last year, it is clear that the confluence of events described in Joel 2 of the Bible which are to usher  the era of the end, already began.

THE END BY FIRE: What is the end going to be like? Will it be by a great flood again? It would seem that the answer is, no, the end is not going to be by a great flood again. The Bible, in many, many, verses, appear quite categorical that the end is going to happen by fire, where the sun, the moon, the stars, the sky, and everything on this earth is going to be burned.

Two of these verses pointing to the end of the world by fire are found in  Malachi 3:19 (or 4:1, in some other versions) and 2 Peter 3:10-12 of the Bible, where we are specifically told that fire will consume everything and everyone, with no one and nothing being spared.

What then must we do in the face of this inevitable occurrence? 2 Peter 3:11 asks the same question: “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” Fortunately for all believers, that passage also gives the answer: “You ought to live holy and godly lives…” Are you living a holy and godly life now?
