Huesca was baranggay eMedia’s guest

(BY: REV. BERLIE G. YAP) One and ¾ more days to go and it will be 2015 already, what perhaps holds for Zamboanga City especially on its problem of the sale of illegal drug? It shocked everyone when all news headlines amongst the local media outfit yesterday was about that drug-bust in Recodo (again?) which yielded a seizure of cold cash of drug money amounting to P1.7m. Thus, such drugmen must be one of Recodo’s big shot.

The alleged big fish in Recodo is seemed to be unknown and was only at the nose of the Zamboangueño people, but everyone knows then something is already wrong at the coast of Recodo. It ain’t anymore a surprise why strangers—not locals in Recodo, would come in its noted stretches in tainted cars, and others even are from Sibugay, del Norte and del Sur. However, this did not slip in the eyes of the police’s intelligence.

Col. Huesca came personally to Barangay eMedia yesterday upon a personal invitation to at least orient the public if what indeed had happened last Saturday. The police official was very nice to indeed receive the invitation and joined the Emedia Mo program in the Barangay eMedia’s primetime.

Col. Huesca dared to name surnames in the interview, that the said P1.7m drug money is an income for only two days. This one they busted is, accordingly, one of the City’s big fishes. Is this meaning that the City police are now willing to "COLLIDE" powerful drug-lords in the City, and also clash with their protectors?

The way Barangay eMedia sized Col. Huesca, Zamboanga police are serious to their campaign, and they even are willing to pay whatever price to clean the City’s streets from the traces of the drug menace. Everyone knows that the dare they take may bring certain repercussions –to our policemen. But for Zamboanga to be able to go forward, our public officers must be willing then to go beyond the comfort zones and challenge the seeming impregnable.

The said drug den in Recodo was also found a certain notebook listing names and transactions. Huesca said that the police are now studying the probability that the drug business—transactions, of these culprits can even be going beyond the bounds of the City. Baranggay eMedia was able to secure raw footages of the bust. The money was in bundles and mostly in P1000 bills.

Though conviction to those who were arrested will have to take a long path yet, and presumably, they also have more than enough money to hire best lawyers in town to defend or buy their freedom. Accordingly, drug lords are ready to such eventuality like arrest. Hence, they amass money to that sole purpose also.

Well, giving them also the benefit of the doubt, nobody can right away adjudge them until they can be given the due process of the law. Our criminal procedure provides that one is always presumed to be innocent unless otherwise proven to be guilty beyond reasonable doubt. For an accused criminally to be convicted must pass the obstacles of any doubt.

Many think that this is the real hindrance of the fair justice of our country, that why caught-on-the-act offenders are still given the same chance to defend themselves, ordinary citizens see that way, but the law not. Our law gives everyone the chance to defend himself at the Court. For everyone has the inherent right to be heard and defend his self.

Things are often a real complication before we can see real justice, but our law doesn’t provide us shortcuts, now after the police could file the case to the City Prosecutor, the executive office now of the City Prosecutor will have the burden to prove the allegations against the arrested accused.

But obviously the efforts of the policemen gave a boost in our City, because imaginably these same public officers are supposed to take their vacation but they still were up and fact amazingly busted one of the big fishes in the City.

They deserve commendations. Hope soon such endeavors can be recognized. We wish though, that somehow this won’t just be a fad or only pogi points but real things where our City’s finest shall be committed until Zamboanga City will be totally cleansed.

But the public must also help our policemen, they alone can’t do it. We have to standby them. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken." Eccles. 4:9-12 ESV
