Binay’s treachery vs. Erap in 2010?

(BY: ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… But I said, `I waste away, I waste away! Woe to me! The treacherous betray! With treachery the treacherous betray!’…” (Isaiah 24:16, the Holy Bible).

BINAY’S TREACHERY VS. ERAP IN 2010? Now, it is not just corruption and plunder that Vice President Jejomar Binay is being accused of. If I am to believe my godfather-in-marriage (ninong sa kasal in Filipino) Neal Hilario Cruz, a veteran journalist, Binay appeared to have also engaged in double-cross, or treachery, against former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Erap Estrada in 2010.

Cruz wrote that there were reports that Binay double-crossed Erap during the 2010 presidential campaign, when they ran together under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA). “Note that Erap lost in Makati, Binay’s bailiwick. At the miting de avance in Makati, the place was overflowing with yellow banners, the campaign color of Noynoy and the LP,” Cruz said. Orange was (and still is) Erap’s color.

Erap learned and appeared convinced of this treachery before casting his ballot, so he did not vote for Binay. My cousin, champion darter and equally-outstanding columnist-broadcaster when he was yet in California, USA and, of course, a certified Erap loyalist, Renato Mauricio, has an interesting story to tell about Erap’s not voting for Binay.

“ERAP DID NOT VOTE FOR BINAY AS VEEP IN 2010”: Mauricio, who is Rey to us his relatives, said that as Estrada cast his ballot in 2010 at a precinct in San Juan City, his own political bailiwick, media photographers and television cameramen who crowded around him managed to take pictures and video footages of what he wrote in that ballot.

The pictures and the video footages showed that Erap did not vote for anyone as vice president! However, when he was later on asked about his not having voted even for Binay as vice president, Estrada claimed he voted for Binay. During the whole time that Erap was being shown the pictures and video footages of his ballot that did not include the name of Binay or of anyone else as vice president, Rey was the only one standing closely at Erap’s back.

Wrote Rey: “I was the only one standing closely at the back of Erap when mediamen confronted him with his not having voted for anyone as vice president on May 10, 2010. This was when he had just stepped out of the precinct in San Juan where he voted. Erap denied what the mediamen were saying, but he simply smiled after the pictures and the video footages were shown to him.”

ERAP RUNNING IN 2016: The only probable explanation why Cruz was able to know and then write about Binay’s supposed treachery against Erap was that, the former president narrated the matter to him. According to Rey, it was only Erap (and Rey, of course) who knew of this story about Erap having been double-crossed by Binay in 2010. If Cruz came to know about it, it must have been because Erap told him about it.

The intriguing question now is this: why would Erap tell journalist Cruz of this matter at this point? My cousin Rey is telling me that the only reason could be that, Erap is really convinced that Binay committed treachery against him in 2010, as Cruz wrote. It could also mean that Erap will really run for the presidency in 2016, and will not allow Binay to fight uncontested.

DEMAND LETTER NEEDED TO COLLECT DEBT: Malou G. wanted to collect the debt due her from a friend who borrowed money in 2012, and she wants to know how to proceed with collecting the sum. The answer is, Malou G. must send a demand letter first asking for the payment of the borrowed amount. Without a demand letter, the debtor could not be compelled to pay.
