(BY: ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love…” (Psalm 33:4-5, the Holy Bible).

INCONSISTENCIES ON MARWAN’S DEATH:So, really, what is the truth, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas: was it really Zulkifli bin Hir, or Marwan, that was killed by the Special Action Force or not? The people would like to believe it was really Marwan, whose dead body was supposedly photographed on January 25, 2015 in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, so the death of the hapless 44 SAF officers and men would not have been in vain.

But, official statements about Marwan’s DNA test, first from police authorities themselves and, second, from reports emanating from Roxas, seem to suggest that no one is telling the truth about Marwan’s death. There are significant inconsistencies in these official statements, giving rise to speculations that neither the SAF or the Philippine National Police, nor Roxas, are telling the truth.

Why am I saying this? Well, let’s see what Roxas was reported to have said on Thursday, February 05, 2015, about this matter which got published in the online version of Sun Star under the following link: http://www.sunstar.com.ph/breaking-news/2015/02/05/roxas-saf-got-their-man-390421.

WHICH OF MARWAN’S FINGERS WERE CUT OFF?This report said: “Interior Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II announced on Thursday that the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Special Action Force (SAF) successfully killed terror suspect Zulkifli bin Hir, also known as Marwan, on January 25.

“Roxas said he got the official report of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirming that Marwan is dead following DNA tests…Government troops, however, were able to chop off Marwan’s index finger of his left hand after he was killed in the raid…”

But in a report on the same DNA test on Marwan which appeared at the online version of the Inquirer on January 30, 2015 under the link http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/669055/marwan-finger-cut-off-for-dna, it was made clear that SAF forces “cut off one of the fingers on his right hand to make sure they got the DNA of the most wanted terrorist in Southeast Asia…”

DOUBTS ON MARWAN DEATH SURFACE: Now, will someone please clarify: was it the index finger from Marwan’s left hand that was cut and which was subsequently submitted to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation for testing, or was it one of his fingers in his right hand? Surely, there should be no inconsistency whatsoever as to what fingers were cut off from Marwan, if it was indeed true that some of his fingers were cut off, right?

These inconsistencies, duly published yet, not only give rise to bitter confusion, but is adding all the more to the growing disbelief of the Filipino people about the legitimacy of the January 25, 2015 operation that resulted in the gruesome massacre of 44 policemen, who were considered as elite and highly trained.

If the authorities could not even agree on what fingers of Marwan were cut off, what other aspects of this operation are doubtful and are unacceptable? I remember that, in law, there is a rule which says that “falsity in one means falsity in all”. If there is falsity on the issue of Marwan’s DNA, could there also be falsity on all the other claims on the incident by the government?
