Halt for the moment

(BY: REV. BERLIE G. YAP) As the days roll, more details and revelations are exposing on that fateful operation in Mamasapano. Ordinary citizens are left enthralled to how the death of the fallen 44 is not only actually a by-product of a mere coincidence but a result of pure ambitions by some personalities, groups, politics and even including money.

However, the sure development recently is that all the needed hearings on the process of the BBL are temporary put into halt by the legislative. Their unconditional demand is to know the clear-cut result of the investigation of alleged misencounter, as to clear some doubts of the sincerity of the MILF in the peace process, before they can resume.

Barangay eMedia was oriented about this said development by Cong. Lilia Nuño herself during her program, Motherly Yours Lilia, on Friday, February 6. According to Cong. Lilia, their deliberation on the BBL provision stopped at the page 70, from the 98 pages of the proposed bill. They already have tackled a number of critical points in the said provision for its clear construction to reach on its implementation.

Coming as a background of the recent development is the expected resignation of Gen. Alan Purisima from the PNP Chief. Many Filipinos really derided his involvement of the un-cleared SAF operation. It is safe to presume that the entire nation would also want him to be investigated, and even probably be legally implicated, if possible.

How is that, another news emerged this weekend, that the US government had an actual agreement with the MILF for the capture of Marwan? If that is so, why was the death of the 44 SAF troopers! Since after the Bali bombing 14 years ago, the US government did ever giggle to capture Marwan.

A $5m bounty is an enough manifestation, to how indeed is the head of Marwan is strategically important to the cause of US war on terror. To his ultimate demise, many are salivating the fortune of $5m. Who may get or claim it? Accordingly, there were two persons who tipped the US or the Philippine government to the whereabouts of Marwan, thus they may receive the said bounty.

As the emotions of the Filipino people go to the families of the slain SAF members, many are also demanding that the said bounty instead be given to the families of the fallen SAF. Well, they contend that the SAF members also deserved the honor, recognition and the reward of the capture and death of Marwan.

Last Friday, when Major Pabalinas was already brought to his perpetual rest, a number noticed that a certain crown/flower, which was offered by the office of the President, was thrown carelessly along an open field at the cemetery. Anyhow, the high emotions of offense by the Zamboangueños are understandable.

During that same interment, a squad of policemen honored their fallen comrade by firing a number of gun salutes. There was a part of the ritual where the squad fired bullets to the ground as symbolic to the assured justice for their comrade. Former Vice-Mayor Mannix Dalipe jeered via facebook that he mistook the bushes, those policemen fired, as the same crown/flower offered by the office of the President.

In times of pain or crisis, the Zamboangueño people are always united to show to the world how we empathize each other, and that nothing could kill our spirit of positivism.

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isa. 43:18-19, ESV)
