(BY: ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO) LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…`Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful’...” (King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:20, the Holy Bible).
ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL LEFT OUT IN MAMASAPANO PLAN: Listening to the Senate inquiry on the Mamasapano, Maguindanao massacre of 44 officers and men of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police Monday, February 09, 2015, it suddenly hit me that the one thing lacking in the preparations and execution of the operation to get terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, last January 25, 2015 was spiritual direction.
While it maybe assumed that each and everyone of the 392 policemen who were plucked from different regions tried to pray on their own, there was no group prayer for the entire team before they finally launched the operation to get Marwan. This could be the reason why they were easily routed by the enemy on the fateful morning.
Because of this, I am suggesting that each of our military and police commanders be made to read and study likewise the different military exploits narrated in the Bible, and learn how battles and wars were won, or what strategies were used by the combatants to gain victory. I am sure that we can all learn valuable lessons from these Biblical narratives.
WINNING WARS AND BATTLES IS PROVIDENTIAL: I remember quite well the story of the battle directed by King Jehoshaphat when his kingdom was invaded by three rival kingdoms, depicted in 2 Chronicles 20. When he learned that huge armies were preparing to attack him and his people, Jehoshaphat called everyone in his territory and led them in prayer to God.
After that prayer, God empowered a man, Jahaziel son of Zechariah, to assure the king and his constituents that God will fight and win the battle for them. “You will not have to fight this battle… stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you… Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you,” Jahaziel said.
In the battlefield, Jehoshaphat placed at the head of his army a choir who were ordered to sing praises to the splendor and might, and love, of God for His people. As the choir started singing, God caused the invaders to attack and kill one another. Then, God allowed Jehoshaphat’s soldiers to seize the treasures of the slain invaders, taking them more than three days to do so.
WHY WAS MASSACRE TIMED WITH CORY’S BIRTHDAY?There’s one tiny, yet overwhelmingly important, detail that is worth looking into in connection with the January 25, 2015 slaughter of the 44 men and officers of the Special Action Force in Mamasapano, Maguindanao. Who chose January 25, 2015 as the date of the SAF police operation? Why was it important that the operation had to be carried out on that date?
Could it be possible that the said date was picked by those who ordered the police operation to be pursued so that the capture or neutralization of Marwan can be connected with someone who is now considered as an icon of democracy, not only in the Philippines but in the whole world as well, because she is supposed to have led Filipinos in a bloodless revolution in 1986?
That, somehow, connecting Marwan’s capture or, as we are now being led to believe, his death, to the birthday of President Corazon C. Aquino could have the effect of immortalizing her memory in the worldwide fight against terrorism as well? But, what can her relatives say now since some 44 brave men and women from the police died as well?
