Failed abduction

(BY: REV. BERLIE G. YAP) Two ladies, three nights ago, resisted and were freed from a supposed abduction somewhere in Nuñez Extension. Their testimonies: they just finished their hospital duty and were waiting for their individual fetch. A white van, which has already parked in the vicinity for more than an hour, just suddenly stopped to their spot, opened the door and attempted to pull them by force to enter to the vehicle.

The ladies must be clever, pushed their supposed abductors and were able to resist a “could be” fright-some fate. Zamboanga has a reputation of a rich potential place for kidnapping and abduction because of the hugeness of the land area and its proximity to the waters. Most of the past kidnappings, victims were brought to the island of Basilan.

For some time now kidnapping has already become a good industry which is being embraced by different bandits, groups and other thrill seekers, not just in the City but also, in the entire Mindanao. It is a sure big money, but its investment and consequences is the sale of criminals’ souls. Once they can be apprehended, two places they shall surely end—prison or cemetery.

Though the police are yet studying the possible angles of the supposed abduction. It could be that some influential interested men to the ladies were behind it. In fairness, the ladies are quite pretty and attractive. By history, of similar crimes in the City, a relative motive did also already happen in the past.

Guys should know to suit girls well and gentlemanly, not by force and throuh abduction. For such is a crime in the eyes of the law and a sin before God. Remember, nobody in invincible. The long arms of law can always and eventually apprehend criminals and offenders. It ain’t also corny to say that God is not sleeping. Crime pays!

Few witnesses related that the alleged white van was already there parking for almost a couple of hours then. Noticeably, it also has been parking there, opposite the local hospital, for several days. It could be that the van was making yet earlier surveillances against the victims for days before the commission of their failed attempts.

Accordingly, there were around 4-5 persons who were inside the white van. They are a band, if our law may word or describe them, inside the van. A little graphic detailed description was provided by one of the ladies. The person who pulled them was a tall, curly and white haired, and athletic-built guy.

The added visibility of our police and the military in our City’s streets recently is vital and relevant, if that is the case where kidnappings are happening again in Zamboanga. The national and local elections are forth coming and it could be possible for the recurrence of such criminality all over to escalate.

Our authorities know this fact and probably one of the reasons why they are dispatching in significant numbers uniformed men in strategic places in our City, especially to schools were vulnerable students can be easy prey for the criminals. However, its negative implication is an impending violence to any non-local who may on a visit to Zamboanga.

The recent failed abduction does call our parents to never be tired to remind their children to be extra careful always. We’re living in a dangerous time, that the best defense is an offense. We must prevent any atrocity at all cost before it can happen. And of course, we always must depend to our Creator who gives us the real protection every day.

“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” (Ps. 91:7-11, NKJV)
