THE TORTURING MESSAGES

Last March 8, 2015, BOTTOMLINE came out with the question: “Who reads those congratulatory messages in every graduation program made by schools during the graduation week in March of every year. The tortures inflicted upon the recipients of those programs are endless, and the teachers preparing these programs think that the readers read them. Did these teachers care to ask?

WMSU DISCARDED MESSAGES

In 2002, the Western Mindanao State University discarded those messages because I recommended to Dr. Eldigario D. Gonzales, then WMSU President, and he agreed with me that those messages were already irrelevant, the messages were discarded. WMSU Graduation Program was patterned from the Washington State University, USA. You do not find messages in the WMSU Graduation Program to the relief of the graduating students, parents and visitors. What you find are informative articles about the ACADEMIC REGALIA, Profile of the Commencement Speaker, WMSU Officials, List of the candidates for Graduation and other relevant information, but gone are the messages.

PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS REFUSAL TO YIELD

But unfortunately, teachers from the Basic Education “refused to discard” these “torturing messages” for fear of being reprimanded by their Principals, the reasons are obvious.

Year in and year out the tortures continue with impunity, unmindful of the discomfort of the attendees to these year-end academic exercises.

THE PROPOSAL CONTINUES

Here is that PROPOSAL, a continuation of BOTTOMLINE issue of March 5, 2015, which I submitted to Supt. Pedro Melchor Natividad for the reading Public to know what I recommended to do away with those “tortures” once and for all.

II. RATIONALE

An innovation in some parts of the graduation program must be re-engineered, improved, enhanced and enriched as well as more informative to the readers.

The innovation is not on the point of view of the Supervisor, the principal or the faculty but the stakeholders – the students and parents as well as the supporters, donors, sponsors and others.

Some mechanisms have to be undertaken by the Division Supervisors as the initial group to review this Proposal, enriching it, if necessary subject this to the best improvement the Division Supervisors can undertake.

III. THE PROPOSAL
The procedures how this can be undertaken takes a cohesive understanding and keeping an open mind to the proposed innovation.
