LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… You who preach against stealing, do you steal?...” (Romans 2:21, the Holy Bible).
REFERENDUM FROM TWO RALLIES ON SATURDAY:I am excited to see which group would be able to draw more participants during two simultaneous rallies that are scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017. The first rally, which is to be held at the EDSA People Power monument in Quezon City, seeks to commemorate the first EDSA power grab that led to the ouster of former President Marcos.
The second rally is to be held at the Quirino Grandstand at the Luneta Park in Manila, and is not only intended to counter the EDSA rally but more to show that there are more Filipinos who support President Duterte and his campaigns against illegal drugs and corruption which employ unorthodox methods.
Certainly, the group which draws more people to its ranks on Saturday will not only be considered more popular. It will also constitute proof of who enjoys at this point in the history of this country more support from Filipinos. It will truly be a referendum on how our countrymen feel about the Aquinos and about Duterte.
TWO REASONS FOR NOT ATTENDING EDSA EVENT: As far as I am concerned, there are two compelling reasons why I couldn’t participate in the commemoration of the EDSA power grab on February 25, 2017. The first is the disclosure made by journalist Rigoberto Tiglao that, based on documents officially released by the United Nations, some US$4.2 billion worth of gold were stolen from the Philippines from 2010 to 2016.
Undeniably, 2010 to 2016 constituted the six-year term of Benigno Aquino III as president of the Philippines. It is under this term, if I am to believe the purported UN report, that Philippine gold, mostly from Mindanao, were allegedly smuggled out of the country and taken to Hong Kong.
The point is that, with the smuggling of that huge quantity of Philippine gold, the country and its people did not get any benefit at all. Can Noynoy Aquino explain whether or not the UN report is true, and how come it took place under his term? Unless and until this is explained clearly, the presumption would always be that Noynoy should be held liable for that large-scale theft of Philippine gold.
AQUINOS MUST FACE THE TRUTH:The second reason why I will not be attending the EDSA event borders along the same line as the first: there are disclosures, allegedly made by one Chito Roque, that he gave then President Corazon Aquino a boxful of gold that was confiscated from Malacanang after the Marcoses fled to Hawaii in 1986.
Media reports indicated that Roque made the disclosures in a testimony he gave to a United States court. The same reports said Roque was a member of the then August Twenty One Movement of the late Sen. Agapito “Butz” Aquino who trooped to Malacanang during the EDSA I revolt. Roque found the boxful of gold, and allegedly turned it over to Corazon Aquino.
I am sure that all Filipinos who truly love their country would be interested to know the truth about this. There is therefore a need for Noynoy Aquino and his family to either refute or confirm Roque’s testimony, not only for the sake of Corazon who is even now being taunted as a possible saint of the Catholic Church, but also for the sake of the country and its people as well.
