No less than the elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Zamboanga City were able to arrest a father in a drug buy-bust operation, which the agency conducted two nights ago—March 11, in the community of PC Compound, Barangay Zone 1. The subject person has been notoriously known by PDEA, for some time already, as indeed selling drugs to certain bunch of customers. Thus, the needed operation.
At first, PDEA employed an asset to be a poseur buyer, to confirm the illegal merchandize of the man. The suspect gave-in to the bait, and also sold drugs, without adieu, to the said poseur buyer. Now in less than an hour, after the positive ID, the former went in then to the place, to enforce the subsequent arrest of the suspect. During the said arrest, beside of the drug items, seized along were also the marked money and littered drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s place.
The man is now in the custody of the PDEA and is temporarily detained in their small cell, as the necessary and proper case against him is still readied by the agency. His criminal act will be definitely related to RA 9165 or on The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. So, what may happen now to the family of the said suspect? For sure, the persons to be affected most, shall be them.
Besides, the suspect will need to hire a good lawyer to defend him. In the process, he may have to spend a big amount. Folks have not learnt the hard lessons of the TokHang thing. Probably, pushers thought that the stop of such operation have already given them again the green light to sell well their illegal merchandise. Albeit, they may also forget that the PDEA is still around, to challenge them.
By mere inference, PDEA did not endeavor such operation, unless they had their earlier surveillance and actual knowledge of the suspect’s activity. Anyways, the man is yet presumed to be innocent, in the eyes of the law. It will be the sole duty of the prosecution to prove his guilt, such as the case proper may be filed then against him.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Director, Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, did also face the public and recently gave his announcement that he is now preparing particular policemen, which he will specifically assign in the anti-illegal drugs operation, per the new mandate of the PNP Chief, Gen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
These same policemen, according to Beltran, are carefully selected for the new job. They are officers who never have records and stains to any involvement or protection to illegal drugs. Admittedly, with the temporary rest of the PNP’s relentless fight against the illegal drugs, through the controversial Oplan Tok-Hang, the trade of the dreaded shabu has obviously resurfaced again.
Even our local legislators—the City Council, made a manifestation to Gen. dela Rosa, when he was here in the City last week during the Dia de Zamboanga celebration, that they are also in favor for the re-instatement of the Tok-Hang. In other words, La Bella has indeed benefited such operation, to curb the trade of illegal drugs here in our City. Accordingly, arrests of drug pushers were a daily thing in Zamboanga, when Tok-Hang was still active.
Obviously, our police are still highly honored by the general civilian population. There could be glitches along, but their professionalism does still prevail above all else. Here was another story two nights ago—the ever active PSupt Ariel T, Huesca, Station Commander of Station (PS) 11, with his men were ordinarily patrolling along the highway of Canelar Moret.
Then suddenly, they noticed a motorist who was deliberately committing a number of traffic infractions. Because they were around, they apprehended the latter. When the guy was brought to the police station for the necessary investigation, policemen found in the man’s possession items of illegal drugs. Thus, as incidental to his arrest, another case may be filed against him, with regards to those illegal drugs. But when Barangay eMediaasked him about the substance, the man denied that he had it in his possession. Whew!
“My son, do not lose sight of these—keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” (Prov. 3:21-24, ESV)
